Im getting 2 new Budgies this Tuesday.. :) YAY!
But, they are male and female and they are 6months old...Im a little worried that they might start becoming interested in breeding and just wanted some tips on how I can try to keep them from this.

Apart from seperate cages then I dont think there is a lot you can do, obviously dont add a nesting box. I have a female and male and have them in seperate cages, although I do let them play together during the day.

Dont give them a box, and dont let them stay up late & night, lol. keep the daylight hours to 10 hours (i think thats the rule, but i breed, so not 100%)
Even if they do mate, and she does lay eggs doesnt mean you need to keep them. if you make it uncomfortable for her, by not giving a box, she will learn its not a good idea. either replace the eggs with fake ones, shake them, or boil them (there are posts on here somewhere about that)
Just because you have a male & female doesnt mean they will automatically breed. without the propper conditions, they probably wont.
(just ask the members that have 2 that are trying to breed & they wont! lol)
Its refreshing to see a threat on here about NOT breeding. Thanks for that!!

Thanks for the Info!!... :)
Anna, Like Everony else I would love to have baby budgies, so cute! lol But, I just feel Im not ready by any means..There are Many factors that I would have to think about & I wish everyone would to...
Like What Would I do if Mom Died, or Wouldnt Feed her babies??--I have handfed but, do I really have the time, and Im not that experienced at all.
Can I find them Good Loving Homes? and If not then do I have the space to keep them all? I do have the money to get any vet care needed and such but, Money can only do so much...
and I couldnt/wouldnt let them go to just anyone! They would have to be screened and I would have to be convinced they were a good home...I would feel VERY responcible for the rest of any of the babies lives and how they are treated.
It seems like lots of birds today are almost decorations in peoples houses more so, or people get them and think they are to much work, or they just get bored with them and the only thing that suffers in this picture are the Birds.

My parents thought i wouldnt be able to take care fo a bird and get sick fo it and then a year later still inlove with my little guy and wanting to be a vet and then they let me breed. So they thought that i was ready having the fact that i take good care of my bird and this would be a good learning experience. When i was little i wanted to be a vet and nwo that im volenteering at this vet office and fish hatchery. My parents knew i was ready and i have two eggs and 3 adult budgies. I thought i would share that with you on the term that im really happy right now. Im happy because my birds are happy and im so glad i didnt egt tired of them because they are truelly amazing animals.
Thankx for reading this plz no negetive comments:( :P

yes its always good to think ahead. Im probably going to breed in 2008 ive done alot of thinking and researching and i still have some researching to do but i have plenty of time. I dont even have the birds yet, i ve had 3 birds however in the past and yes they are truly wonjderful pets. after i breed budgies i want to aventually breed cockatiels but not for while i barely even know much about cockatiels so that along ways down the road.
but ya to prevent them from breeding the best way is to put them in seperate cages but fi you dont want to do that dont put any sort nesting box or anything like a nesting box ,like a happy hut or a nest or like anything similiar to those things.
Also like buuzbee said just because there s a male and female does not mean they'll breed, they more likely to breed if theres more birds around them and also they could be related. If the hen does so happen to lay an egg i think the easiest way is just to shake the eggs a then they wont hatch and the hen will get tired of sitting on them for while and give up and maybe soon realize that its too difficult.
