Sounds worse than it is ;)
I want to buy a budgie from an aviary in another province. I need to take a shuttle with a no pet rule. I am hoping that I can smuggle the budgie! What I need to know is - are budgies silent in darkness or do they still make noises?

You can't count on it. You should find a shuttle that will allow you to take your budgie. Usually a shuttle is used to get to an airport, are you positive you will be allowed to take the budgie on the plane? Not many carriers are allowing it anymore.

When I'm driving my budgies home for the first time they usually don't make a peep. I'm not advising you to break the rules on the shuttle, but just be careful. I would hate for you to get in trouble.

Well it all depends on their mood. Sometimes Clyde never talks at day time but then sometimes he dunt shut up at night. I would be VERY careful on what you decide to do.

I had one budgie who used to talk himself to sleep and then carry on chattering even when I turned the lights out. He would often still be mumbling away when I went to bed, don't know if he did it all night.

When they say "no pets" does that really include birds? I would ask about it.
A tiny budgie in a small cage might be exempt.
I would not smuggle him. What if they make you get off the shuttle:eek:
Don't risk it.

This is exactly what my question is and I agree with sigrid's advice. They may make exceptions for certain animals as long as they are inside of something such as a small carrier. :)

The budgie is home with me! Woot! He's frightened, of course, and I am terrified he's going to go into shock and die, but he is in his cage, he's partially covered (he has light, but also is enclosed), and has food and water. He isn't moving around. I am keeping my fingers crossed he won't die of fright :(
Thanks guys!

Of course, he is scared. But if you leave him alone for the night, he'll probably be ok.
I am looking forward to hearing the whole story..with pictures:)

Well, if I caught this a few days earlier, I could've said something. What you should have done in advance was talk to someone who works for the shuttle company and knows the policies regarding animals. Usually No Pets refer to larger animals such as dogs and cats, smaller caged animals (mice, fish, smaller birds, etc.) might be excepted.
When I got Sparky from my breeder, I had to take the bus home from the other end of Ottawa, but OC Transpo generally doesn't allow pets. However, seeing as he was in his travel tank (I brought him home in a small plastic aquarium with a vented top) as I don't like those cardboard boxes they put the poor bird in, it was okay with the driver. OC Transpo will allow small caged animals on their busses provided that the cage/container does not pose a threat to public safety (ie. typical hamster cages) so that people won't trip over it in the event of an emergency. Also, I'll add that Sparky was terrified when I got him home too. I put him in his cage and he was okay after a day or two and started chirping and getting Tikki to respond from the other room.
