Does anybody else have a budgie that squeaks when they fly. I didn't notice it before but the last couple of times Keet has flown to get away, she seems to make a noise that sounds like a squeaky toy. It sounds funny but I never heard until 2 days ago. Is this normal or just her thing?

I've never heard Clyde do that or any budgie for that matter. Must be her thing. But I wouldn't worry about it unless you get concerned. She could be tweeting :P

Sometimes in between his chattering Coby will squeak exactly like our squeaky fridge door. And yes he also sounds like the dog's toy at times. It's the cutest thing isnt it?

Yes it is. It cracks me up because she only does it when she doesn't want to be caught and is flapping really hard ( her wings are clipped). I can only imagine all the not so nice things being said in birdie talk.

Yes, I have a bird that does exactly that. She has a iodine deficiency but it is pronounced enough that I have to give her iodine by beak every few days. If you don't have an iodine block get one. Pepper started out slowly and it got worse over time.
A respiratory infection is another possibility.

Really an Iodine deficiency or a possible respiratory infection?
Ok I'm offically worried now. Do you know what causes the definency? When Pepper started to make the noise was it while she was flying (flapping her wings? or at any random time ?

Is your bird overweight? Kodos used to squeak occasionally when flying when he was at his heaviest. We think the fatty pads were crushing his air sacs a bit.

Squeaking can be a sign of breathing difficulties, which can be caused by various factors. For example, my budgie hen used to squeak when her diseased liver oozed fluid into her air sacs; I could also hear clicking when she breathed. (She's okay now that I've treated her liver.) I recommend you take your sweet hen to an avian vet ASAP. Best wishes!

Thanks. So far the squeaking has been when she flies to get away. There has been a couple of times when she hasn't. I don't know about her weight. I'll have to wiegh her. But, first I need a scale. Other than that she has been fine, playful, chirpping, eating. drinking. Short mid day snooze for a few minutes. Nothing oozing anywhere.

Yes it started when she flew at first, but I think at that point she actually had a respiratory infection. She still tends to squeek when flying but I get more concerned when she is squeeking while eating or just moving around. Even with the iodine by beak she will still have bad days. I have had her for about 6 years and this has been going on for more than two years.

I got the Iodine Block & she is Picking at it. Which is good, I guess. They only time she pants is when she gets scared. Which isn't often.
* pal0m1n0, the iodine that you give her did you get that from the vet?

They are both eating carrots with thier seeds every couple of days. Does anybody know how often I should give them carrots? I'm trying them out on peas mixed with the carrots & seeds this week. I tried hanging lettuce on their cage next to a perch but they took one bite and ignored it after that. Bananas so far is a no go & strawberries well....... they seemed some what interested.

It would be best to offer different varieties of vegetables daily :) Carrots are great in Vitamin A so definitely include that in your daily dish.

Budgies will normally not go too crazy over fruit so do focus your persistency on vegetables :)

I wish you luck!

PLEASE take her to an avian vet soon. You can find one here: http://www.aav.org/vet-lookup/.

Squeaking is a sign of internal problems. You cannot treat her properly without a professional diagnosis. I wish you and your sweet birdy the best.

I will thank you for the info. I'm trying to find someone who is not an 11/2 to 2 hrs away.
I'll try the link you sent me.

My Pippin used to do that when he was flying for a longer-than-average period. I think it's just them getting over-excited. I used to have to chase him around sometimes to put him in his cage so I could leave. I eventually realized that Pip was smart enough that all I had to do was explain what I was doing to him and he complied without a problem. Maybe you should just explain things in a really sweet voice to keet. It's worth a try! :)

But if it is a health problem, deinitely take him to a vet. Better safe than sorry.

I'll try that too. I 'm not saying I won't take her, it's just I would like one that's close incase of an emergency. I like her to much to let het suffer on a long trip if something was to happen.

It's been a long time since I wrote anything. But, I just wanted to give a little update. About a couple of weeks after providing a iodine block to the babies Keets strange squeak went away. There hasn't been any little noises during any short or long flights & this girl likes to take some long flights around the apartment.

Thanks for those who gave me wonderful advise before.
