View Full Version : Veggies?
I think My buddy Gus Is like a typical todler. he won't eat veggies. he won't eat fruit. he won't even eat millet. he only likes bird seed. he likes the occasional munch on his eucalyptus and bottlebrush leavesbut that's it. I've tried carrot, carrot tops, celery tops, a few types of greens and i keep him in the kitchen with me when i am making dinner in hopes he may become interested...."Ahh, Salad." but not yet, he is only a little fella about 2 months, do you think it will just take time or maybe he just doesnt have the taste for them. I even tried little pieces mixed in with his seed, but he just picks around them.

The key is to keep offering the veggies to your budgie daily; you may even want to consider eating some of them in front of your little guy to show him that it is food. Also make sure you are just offering a small quantity of the veggies; you don't want the veggie plate to look to overwhelming to your sweetie. Be patient!
One thing that I have found helpful is to put the veggies in a cup or dish that has a mirror attached to it. When your budgie goes over to the mirror (which many of them love to do), he will be more likely to try the veggies. In fact, if he sees the budgie in the mirror checking out the veggies, he'll be more likely to try them. It sort of fools them into thinking that their fellow flock mates are eating them, so he should eat them too. If you need any ideas for feeding cups with mirrors, I could post a couple of pictures of the things I use. :)
