Alrighty yes I chose a particular word for my budgie Piranha. I have owned her for approx 2 weeks now. I did some searching around and found much info. Its not helping though. I havent acctually named her yet, cant think of anything I like. Anyways on to a funny story, my father (I was at work) he took my budgie out and was holding her. She was biting his fingers, then all of a sudden she started pulling his finger hairs out!!! LMAO. My family insists that I call her 'Plucky' which I think thats a horrible name. I cant get her to stop biting at all. She is acctually finally taking to my finger. I will stick my finger out near her pertch and she will jump on and begin to bite the end of my finger! It doesnt hurt but its rather annoying. She also still wont let me touch her, but she can touch me...How unfair lol. She acctually drew blood from my hand today :(

Second question-- I have her in a small cage in the living room, as suggested. Problem is we have two cats and a dog. The cats dont attack the cage or anything, but they make her unconfortable. Im not entirely sure if I should keep her in that room, its making the training harder with the other animals around.

Any suggestions and tips would be welcomed muchly :)

Billy and Lily also give me the occasional peck!

One method I have found useful is to blow down your budgies nostrils when he/she bites you, not to strog mind you, just calmly.

I've had my saffron for about a month now......I bought her from the store and helped in her training before bringing her home....on her first day of finger training she bit quite a lot.......I would take her and put her inside my shirt (needless to say, I wore two shirts)......this would calm her down substantially......i would hold her inside my shirt or jacket for up to 20 minutes just talking softly to her and not moving much.....then i'd slowly open up my shirt/jacket and get her onto my finger and she would be content to sit quietly........now i handle her often and I can pet or kiss her on any part of her (even her back and belly and head).she does not even attempt to bite.......try holding your budgie inside of your clothing for a while until they calm down and see if it helps.....good luck!

Hey there.

Know how you feel I've had my little bundle of joy Oscar since new years and we've been through quite a bit. My boy still bites me but i found with a lot of patience it's very slowly getting better. I made the big mistake of getting Oscar scared of my fingers. It's taken me quite a while to get him to realise I won't hurt him and now he loves his daily head scratch not to mention he's going through his 3 month old moult and enjoys me rubbing the new feathers for him. The blowing on the nostrils I have found to work like billy and lilly.

Good luck with your new baby.:D

P.s. How about names such as nipper or lolly. I went through the same phase with Oscar of not knowing what to call him. Eventually called him Oscar in memory of Oscar the Grouch off of Sesame Street. They're both grumps!!!

I realize that the site I have listed below has tons of names and it could take you a really long time to find one that you like, but it does have some great suggestions. Perhaps one of them will really speak to you and your budgie! :p

:) Heya guys. She still doesnt have a name, ooh well maybe something will pop out soon. My mom has two lovebirds and she was letting them fly around the living room, they fly to my budgies cage and back to theirs. I let her out so she could mingle and they are soo cute together. :) Anyways now all she wants to do is escape!! I sure hope she gets over that stage soon, I stick my hand in the cage and she tries to escape! All because I let her out for 10 minutes. Shes getting better with the biting. Although I found that the blwoing didnt work, she just bites harder.

Gah, my hands just suffered the attack of an army of green budgies....i had about 6 budgies all biting my hands (and i was letting them, great photos!), anyway, there was one i was terrified of cause she was actually biting to damage and i found that refering to her as a cow or a b**** seemed to offend her enough to get her to go away. :p

Ive found if you blow a rasberry noise (hope ppl know what i mean) that it startles them and they stop doing it, I tried it with chalky and she stops it immediatly!

Erm, i really cant think how to explain it but you just blow out your mouth with ur lips closed and its called a 'rasberry' ive probably made no sense at all ;)

Sometimes you can stick your toungue out and blow, your tounge will vibrate and make a noise a 'raspberry'.

Umm, Yes Tiki is a nibbler too. I think he feels its all in good fun but sometimes that sharp lil beak hurts! I will have to try the soft blowing in the nostrils.

Lol it made sence guys :) when you said raspberry at first I was only thinking about the blowing on a tummy. I couldnt get past that part lol. I couldnt possibly blow on my budgies tummy.
