View Full Version : Is this right- Newbie question again!
I really am falling head over heels for this little guy!
Today is day 3- Zip has fluttered back and forth from some of his perches- hasn't gone to the highest one yet. He has used his ladder. He found his seed bowl- Wow... can he ever eat! :) I put my hand slowly into the cage a few times and hand fed him some millet and he was great- he didn't freak out on me. he has NO interest in any of his toys though- :(
He watches me very closely and when I talk to him he raises one wing- then the other and makes the grindy noise. He gets a little puffed up. He also looks like he is yawning at me when I talk to him! (maybe I am allready boring the poor sweetie! :laughing2: )
I read the budgie signs sticky (great thread!) and am hoping that all signs he is giving me are good ones!
Any and all feedback is more than appreciated!

When he yawns, try yawning back. Buddy Bird and me can go back and forth yawning quite a bit. It's funny when he does it with me.

Well Zip sounds like the perfect little budgie. The grinding noise is a happy comfortable noise.
Also the puffy way he sits is also happy and comfortable.
Don't worry, he's not bored with you. The yawning is actually him adjusting his crop. Can't think of a better way to say it. Getting all comfy.
A lot of budgies don't care for toys. Sometimes it just takes them a while to get used to them and decide to play with them. Some never do.
Sounds like you're doing a great job.
p.s. Your signature is cute.:)

lol! looks like your doing well with your zip..:D he'll soon be able to play with his toys..:)
great job!:D
Thank you!
We all have been singing "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay!" since we brought him home- maybe someday he will sing it back to us! :happy4:
Zip is VERY lethargic today. I cleaned his little droppings from the grate and he fluttered down right by my hand to his seed bowl. :) but thats where he has stayed with his head down and keeps closing his eyes.
I'm such a newbie I worry about everything he does... worrying that hes not happy or might be sick. He did actually drink from his water bowl though this am! :)

It sounds like he's doing fine! :) Don't worry- when I got my first budgie, I was practically paranoid at anything that would frighten or scare my budgie! :) I think we all freak out when we're talking about something hurting our babies! :)
Zip seems to be settling in well. I'm glad the sticky could help. :) It's great news that he's eating and drinking. He'll play with his toys soon! :)

I got Berty on the 22nd of December and Petie and Ziggy on the 24th.
They all ate well from the start.
Berty was the first to really investigate her toys and that wasn't until last night.

Zip sounds like a perfectly normal and healthy little budgie. :)
It's normal for you to be a bit paranoid as well...when I first got Sully, the poor lil' guy was always getting checked up on [even in the middle of the night!].
As for his lathargy...I think that's pretty normal too. Budgies live naps. Mine take 3 or 4 a day, the lazy buggers! :D They don't play with toys much either...they just chew on rope toys...but it took a while before they even did that.
Good luck to you and Zip!
Just took this pic of zip- I don't know....he looks so sad to me today! Not all bright eyed! Maybe its just nap time- Im sure the clicking away on the computer here isn't helping! :D

A bird lover friend of mine came down and helped me rearrange Zips cage- I had all his toys ect... in unreachable positions from his perches. She told me- "Hes not a hummingbird ya-know! He cant just hover!" :laughing2::laughing2::laughing2:

I have a 7 months old budgie called Morpheus who doesn't mind to stand on my hand or finger(unless he's upset at me:p). When he usually stands on my hand, he starts to sing and dance on it by going back and forth on it.
Today, when he was doing that, he was fluffing, bobbing and wagging his tail at the same time.:cool-smiley-025: After that, he got bored and flew away. I wanted to see him doing that again so when I approached my hand to him, he did the whole same routine again. And he always do that when he stands on my hand. :budgie:
Frankly saying, he looked so adorable when he was doing that:loveeyes:but are you sure that is not a sign of budgie's strange behavior?:S

Oh, your Zip is sooooooo adorable!
As for his "lethargy," is he getting 10-12 hours' sleep per night? Remember, he's just a baby ... a growing boy!
Keep up the good mothering! :D

That does sound familiar, Bumble does a little dance standing on your hand and running back and forth, with a bit of head bobbing thrown in. He loves it if you wiggle your fingers too. Crazy birds!

Zip sounds like he is settling in quite nicely:) Congrats with your progress so far, don't worry about the eating, when my Gracie-Mae was a baby I got scared as well, she ate so much I thought she would explode:eek: But then the vet told me it was normal for them to eat alot
when they are very young. (btw i love his name):)

He's adorable! He looks healthy and I'm sure he'll be fine. You're doing a great job!
It wouldn't be a bad idea to schedule his first vet visit. Not because he's sick ( I don't think he is), but because its always good to get a new bird checked out and establish a relationship with a good vet.
