I plan on making seed bells and trees with some organic honey and seed mix I made using the molds you get in the Kellogg's Rice Krispies this time of year.
I also found this recipe for edible "glue". lol
Moldable Christmas Bird Treats
Edible Glue
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup water
3 Tbsp. corn syrup (add package of plain Knox gelatin for extra holding power if necessary)
- Mix this together and then add 4 cups of birdseed, peanuts, fruits, berries, raisins, or anything else the birds enjoy.
- Spoon mixture into Rice Krispies mold, press down, then turn out onto wax paper.
- Poke hole in top with a straw, if necessary
- Let harden
- Hang with bird safe raffia, fleece, ties, etc...
*Alternative: For wild birds, substitute edible glue with 1.5 lbs suet or lard and reduce seed mix to 2.5 cups
I'm going to do this with my nieces this coming weekend!
I'll post pics once they are done!
