A few days ago my mom found a kitten running back and forth across the road so she took it home. My moms friend is giving it meds and it is getting a lot better. It looks about 6 weeks old so I am hand feeding it for a few weeks. He is very friendly and purrs when ever he gets petted. Me and my mom would like to keep him but I don't think my dad would let us. How much does it cost to get a male cat fixed? and if he gets fixed will he spray every thing when he gets older because he will be a inside only cat and I don't want my house to start smelling of cat pee. I will get some pics later.

The cost can vary, but some places will do it for free.
If he is fixed, he shouldn't spray.
We have a siamese male who's been fixed, and he's never sprayed.
It is pretty smelly when they do, though.

The humane society has the best price for neutering and is much cheaper then spaying a female which is good. It has been awhile so I could not give you an exact price. As far as marking, he shouldn't if he is fixed however depending on the cat, peeing is generally a behavioral issue. When I had my kids my cat became recluse and never stopped peeing. He was an anxious kitty though. They can do it if they are upset by something. Clean the litter box daily and keep laundry up and plants with large enough pots should have rocks or something over the dirt. Have fun :)

We rescued 2 kittens 5 years ago (about 4 weeks old) unfortunately only one survived. We had him fixed and he has never sprayed, but all cats are different. Great job with the rescue and I hope it works out for you :) Post some pictures when you can.

Thanks, I wondered if having two female cats(one is not fixed) would cause him to spray even if he was fixed? Thanks.

It honestly depends on the cat, but more than likely they will spray if not neutered as they are 'trying' to attract females outside. Kudos to you for rescuing the kitty. Neutering a male cat is generally cheaper than spaying a female. Around here you can get it done for as little as $20 (low cost), average normal price is around $45.00.

I have a ragdoll that I adopted. He is a retired breeder and he does not spray around my feamle cats. One was a stray that had kittens. After I adopted out all the kittens I kept her inside until I could have her spayed. She did not go into heat around him though, that would be when it would happen. The thing about cats though is male and female are capable of spraying. Females in heat do spray the smell is just not as strong as males.

What meds is he on? Has he been tested for FIV/FELV? I would definitely test him before coming in contact or sharing any kind of food bowls/litterboxes with your resident cats!

That looks like a sick little kitty.:( I hope he makes it. We have a neutered male cat, and he will occasionally spray. Usually only when the other two cats have been bothering him. You can get stuff in the pet stores to neutralize any spray odour if he does spray.

The vet told me that males are more likely to spray when there are other males. He said some male cats have a laid back personality and don't care and some need their own space. Just like male cats in the wild. The females stay together and the males stay alone. They boys don't mind sharing space with other females but some can be territorial with other boys. He said each boy needs around 1500 sq feet to call their own. Esp. if they have that temperment (snooty kitties). That is why mine did not do so well. The dog and the kids took over his territory and he let us know. He became a completely different cat. Poor buddy.

Your kitty looks sick? Check out this link I'm not sure it will help, but he might need some medical attention?

Actually, our other two cats are both females.:) However, they are younger than he is, and can bug him sometimes. He's a good natured type for the most part who puts up with a lot, but sometimes he just lets fly.

LOL :) I was just giving some info the vet told me when I was having my problem. But, it just goes to show that each kitty is an individual and you gotta be ready for all possibilities :)

I have a male and female cat. They are 11 and 10 years old. My female has never sprayed and only pees in the litter box. As my male has got older, if you leave a towel on the floor or a piece of clothing laying around he will pee on it. It's taught us to keep our laundry out of the floor. If it's up he won't mess with it. Guess he's obsessive compulsive about a picked up house.:S

A) That kitty needs to see a vet ASAP
B) Poor kitty has an AWFUL eye infection of some kind
C) Kitty needs to be QUARANTINED from your other cats!
D) It cost us $150 total to neuter and declaw our male cat
E) You HAVE to wait until the kitten is 6mths old before any respectable vet will neuter him
F) Give the poor kitty a bath, but not a flea bath as it is too young for it

PS> Our male has NEVER sprayed before or since he's been fixed. But cats are territorial. Our 2 females we had years ago sprayed all the time. P-U!

Thanks, I don't know what kind of meds she is giving him but there are two that go in his eyes and one that has to go in his mouth. He has to stay on the meds for 6 days. He is doing so much better and is eating dry food. I have him quarantined in my bathroom.

Glad to hear he's doing better each day. You should be able to get a check up that includes a spay and health check for well under $150. He does need to be tested for feline leukemia and feline aids, both common stray in cats. Also distemper. Plus ear mite & worms if he's been out on the streets for a while.

Deffinatly looks like Conjunctivitis, so he's probably got a respritory infection too, so the meds should help with that.

As for spraying, i've had a male with a female, both fixed. My male never sprayed but did yowl a lot. Typical tomming. When my male died after surgury for cancer, we adopted another female from the pound, neither sprayed ever. We then adopted another female about 5 years later and she's also been spayed, but she has been known to pee on the couch... GRRRR, so we've had to buy a few bottles of the urine neutralizer over the years.
