I have two budgies and a cockatiel in a rather large cage. Its not huge but its not small either. And they have enough room to fly about and have there own space. And i was wondering, i'm purchasing another budgie this week, female for definate and after a while i am going to place a nest box in the cage, but do you think they budgie's will lay and sit in a cage...my cockatiels had babies in the corner of the exact cage....and im just wandering, since they hatched babies in the cage, will they be able to?:o

Do not house budgies and tiels together. It is asking for trouble. I highly recommend buying a nice big cage for your tiel to have to herself and another nice big cage for the budgies. Budgies can be very territorial and can hurt the tiel (you may say "but they get on so well", all it takes is one grumpy budgie to seriously injure the tiel), on the other hand the budgies could get on the wrong side of the tiel and it could bite a leg off. Basically, just not worth the risk.

Also, if you have 3 budgies putting a nest box in would cause massive fights. Bad idea. I suggest putting off breeding for some time and enjoying the budgies you have. In the meantime read and read and read every single piece of information you can find about breeding and keeping budgies. Breeding is not something to go into lightly and it is SO important to be informed. You need to be sure that the ones breeding are unrelated (if they were bought young from a pet shop at the same time - or even different times, same pet store - they could easily be related) and are of the correct age (over 12 months old - preferably 18 months - and less that 3-4 years for the hen, 5-6 for the cock). Please do your research. There are heaps of budgies in pet shops and shelters who need a loving home so you shouldn't just breed for the sake of having baby budgies. :)

I agree with you actually. My Tiels and Budgies have been together since June and they Tiel and Budgie actually get on better than the two budgies, the cage is kind of big enough for them to stay out of each others ways. But i'd like to thank you for that information, and i think im just going to invest on the few unfortunate ones who don't seem to be chosen in pet shops, and i will give them the loving home they need :) and i wandered why my male budgie, tommy always seems abit...bored. I gave them toys but they don't seem to play with them...and they're only youngens.

If you're looking for toys that will interest the budgies try things with bells, they're usually a hit. :) My tiel likes things he can chew and preen more than noisey toys.
