View Full Version : Food, Safe, Right?
Those should be part of their daily diet (not all at once and the veggies and cooked foods more so than the fruit). With the apple, don't let them eat the seeds - they're toxic - but the actual fruit is fine. Pasta should be cooked. Don't feed too much spinach as it stop calcium being absorbed into the body properly. Be careful with the strawberries as most you buy in shops have had tons of pesticides sprayed on them and even washing them won't get rid of it, if you grow your own they would love some as a treat. Don't feed canned fruit or veggies, fresh or if you can't be bothered frozen (fresh is best though). Canned usually has added sugar or salt.

Thank you so much I didn't know any of that but the apple seeds
No worries! I'm here to help. If you're interested in more cooked foods you can feed them legumes, i personally like to cook them some soup mix (has a couple of different lentils and some beans) and they'll dig right into that. :) Also, hard boiled and then mashed egg (with nothing added) is a good source of calcium.

Yes they really like hard boiled eggs. There is someting about them that makes them attracted to it. It's something very easy to make and there's usually no time that you don't have eggs! (well in my house it's like that!)

Do they like some of the yolk? and when they get skinny can I feed them some treats to get them to eat? and can they eat toast ( with out toppings :P)

You can give them toast. I believe you can't give them white bread. If they start getting under weight, I would assume that they wouldn't want to eat anything, since they didn't eat anything to get skinny. If they will take the treat then you deffinetly can
If they lose weight something's not right, they would need to see a vet.

okay I gotta save up for the vet I now...:D
Definitely, and i highly recommend putting aside $5-$10 a week and putting it in a safe place as a Vet Fund. :D That way if you need to go to a vet as an emergency you will already have the money put aside.

its best to buy organic since non organic sttuff has tuns of chemicals and stuff spryed on them that can be harmful to your bird.

well so far I have given them part of an apple that I picked from our own apple tree. nothing sprayed on them at all. and if they got Chives and herbs they would be from our garden as well.

I saw a list of herbs somewhere that budgies are okay with. I remember parsley and oregano because I have those and I remember that sage is no good. My budgie really likes catnip/catmint I have it growing in the backyard.
