Benjii my boa had a perfect shed today!

It's the first time since I owned him he had a perfect shed so I'm really happy. I ran around the house as if it was Christmas Day with his skin showing it to my parents and well.. let's just say they were not as happy as I was lol. :p Oh well, he's also gotten so much bigger and today he's moving up to larger rats.

Here are some photos of him!

This is his home, I put tin foil on the top of the cage to keep more warmth in.

Here he is a few days before he shed... as you can see he's got cloudy eyes.

Well like people feed their dogs and cats chicken, beef, turkey ect... I feed him rats. I don't enjoy seeing him kill or eat rats, I'll usually just leave the room and let him do his thing, I try to feed him frozen all the time but sometimes the pet store only has live. The meat humans eat is killed in a much more painful way.

Yep.

Also remember that if you're feeding live, you should always be there to supervise. A rat's bite can lead to some serious vet bills.

You can order frozen rats or mice online or if you're near an area where they hold a reptile expo, you can get quality frozen prey items for a good deal.

Try http://reptileexpo.ca/index.html and http://www.reptilescanada.com

Yeah I only leave the room after he strikes or I'll peek through the door. :o

I don't order things online as I rather see what I'm buying in person. Plus I really don't know how lol.

I love the kissing pic :) In the beginning pictures for a moment I thought you might have two snakes since there was Benji and then I saw anothe snake with red in his pattern but then I noticed that was just his tail lol! :o

Check out some Expos then :D They're really fun.

When the snake's constricting, the prey still has it's few moments to fight back. That's when biting occurs. Feeding live is tricky and odds of your snaking getting seriously bitten will catch up.

You could also pre-kill the rat humanely before feeding. I know, it sounds horrid but there's the simple and painless method of CO2 gassing. It humanely euthanizes the rat by putting it to sleep where it quickly dies painlessly.

Here's a very easy How-to

There's also the method of knocking the rat unconscious by putting it in a pillow case and whacking it hard against a surface.
I personally could not do that myself and seeing as it's already a squeemish subject, I don't think you'd want to do it either.

Good luck! :D

Yes I've heard of all those ways but I'd much rather let nature take it's course as I could never handle whacking a rat against something and I think it would be horrible to do. My boa grabs and kills his food very fast, he constricts at the moment his jaws lock onto the rat and it dies with in a few seconds.

I'm starting to get used to it kinda already. :o

I'd love to attend an expo, there is a big one coming up next year in Feb.
