Could I have a sociopathic budgie? LOL! :budge:

By this I meen he (Webber) has never kept a cage mate for more than two months before the newcomer (4 of them to date) is found dead. Always in the morning, always "unexpected", and seemingly without incident, I cant explaine how they keep passing away.

He is such a beutiful bird inside and out. I just want him to have a buddy but now I'm wondering if he may not want one. Could he be "stressing them to death"?

I did keep each bird seperate for a quarentine period but within earshot so they could communicate. I then caged them seperatly for two weeks. When they were finaly introduced I did it in a "neutral" cage to deter territorial conflicts and even set up multiple feeding and watering stations. One by one they passed.

Could it have been illness or are the odds on Webber? Are there any warning signs all is not well when it seems to be fine?:):S

Wow, that is strange. :S
Maybe taking Webber to the vet for a check up might be an idea.
Or maybe Webber does stress them to death, and prefers to be a one person bird.
I hope you get it all figured out, it is odd that they all passed away.

Thanks that is what I thought. Webber has been with us for eight years and has had regular checkups.

The fact that you've had Webber 8 years makes me feel that he just prefers to be alone and doesn't want a friend. I wouldn't push a friend at this point. If he's gone this long without a friend and acts this way, he probably won't adjust to another bird and it's not worth risking another bird's life to find out.

Wow - Webber sure is handsome! :D It is always possible that Webber is a carrier of a virus while himself asymptomatic and unaffected by the virus. A bird can easily be a carrier of a virus that the budgie itself is not sickened by. One example of this is when a bird has mild exposure and overcomes an illness but remains a lifelong carrier of the virus, able to shed it either through the air of direct contact with items such as droppings, perches, food, shared toys, etc.

If it were just one budgie, I wouldn't be so suspicious, but 4 of them - that seems a little too coincidental... unless Webber is sending some sort of psychic signals... :p but he is a cutie! :)

I would also think that Webber could be the carrier of a disease. He shows no symptoms, but he infects other birds.
How does he act around his mates? Is he aggressive? Budgies usually get along well, and you went ahead slowly.
Did the dead birds show any injuries? It is probably too late, but I would have suggested a necropsy where the cause of death could be determined.
We might be accusing poor Webber here...and it could be natural causes after all.

Take little Webber to an avian vet and ask him whether Webber should be checked for avian diseases. If you don't have access to an avian vet, perhaps your multi-animal vet can confer with my avian vet, Larry P. Nemetz, DVM http://www.thebirdclinic.com/.
