lol whatever ozzy does Odie seems to have to be involved... like if Ozzy goes up to snack on the treat stick Odie goes up there too... if Ozzy goes to get a drink of water... so does Odie.... what is going on!
Odie also has his feathers puffed up a bit.. but he just started that like thirty seconds ago...

he is "mating" with the other bird in the cage
if u have a male and female and dont watn babies then separate them

I have a small bowl with a little bit of fresh apple in the cage and Ozzy was in the bowl munching on the apple and Odie went over and stood on top of him... ozzy didnt like it very much!

It could be that Odie is trying to 'mate' with Ozzy. From what I have read they can become 'confused' and try to mate with another budgie in the cage even though it is a male bird like themselves. If this is what is happening I'm not sure if you have to seperate them and hope that someone here can please advise.

Thanks... I went and talked to an Avian vet today (our vet that we have used for ever, turns out he treats birds as well) and he said that it is probably a dominance thing....and that I just need to watch out for feather plucking but that it should be fine. and that if he gets to agressive that I need to take him out for a while and let him get a bit tired before putting him back. and also that for training and stuff, like if I am going to only take one bird out that I need to take Odie out first becuase otherwise i could have a problem.
He doesnt forsee any problems but just gave me some things to watch out for and some tips.

It's great that you made a point of talking to your vet, a really good vet is worth his/her weight in gold. They are two very lucky budgies to have such a caring owner and I look forward to reading about their funny little antics as they continue to settle in with you.

Awww thank you Jan.... I was just concerned that eating the expired bird food would hurt them and he said that the only thing that is wrong with the seed is that the Potency of the Vitamins is lower, and that it was okay to continue feeding them with it for a short time. I cant get to the pet store(it's an hour away) untill at the very earliest wednesday(and thats when I am planning on going)
He said that if I were to feed them this expired food for longer than a week I would have to give them suppliments untill i could get it replaced and that for just a few more days wont hurt them a bit.

That sounds like pretty good advice from your vet especially if the seed is only a little way expired? Your pet store sounds as if its a long way from where you are, less temptation to just pop in if its close by and look at more budgies to add to your family :) Hard to resist them and I haven't even looked since losing Harry around a month ago. It's just too soon to 'replace' him yet, hubby has agreed to take me in tomorrow to 'look' at cages though I might wander in to where the budgies are housed! :) Harry was his 'Daddy's' boy so I'm not going to rush into anything.

I am sorry to hear about your loss with Harry. if you dont mind me asking, how long did you have him?
Yeah, and the wal-mart here is sooo tiny they dont carry much for birds. I need to get a perch that is for trimming their nails (advice from vet), and I want to look at getting another toy or too. I am just not sure if they have enough to do in their cage.
They have two toys they havent even touched yet. lol... they have a ladderfrom the floor of the cage to a perch and a little carosel type thingy that they havent touched. other than that they have a swing which they seem to like and a little nesty looking thing to sit in and a teat stick that hangs from the top of their cage with a bell on it. and let me tell you, they ADORE their treat stick, I am contemplating taking it out and only putting in for like an hour each day becuase they seem to only be eating their treat.
of course they have to "must-haves" like cuttle bone, food and water and Millet.
Anyways, I just think they need more....

I don't mind at all, we had him for six very short years, I expected that he would be with us for much longer, but it wasn't meant to be :(
Your Wal-mart sounds pretty much like our supermarkets here, they only seem to carry the very basics, seed, cage sheets and a bit of millet!
A lot of people (and our vet when we had Harry) recommend perches of differing thicknesses, certain kinds of natural branches, that all go to helping excercise and give varying widths for birds feet, just as they would in the wild. There are some good posts on the forum about what kinds of wood to use. My vet advised not to get the sanded perch covers though as these can cause more problems than do any good. Maybe your little ones aren't to bothered about their toys because they have each other to bond and have fun with :) Also a caring 'mum' giving them lots of fuss and love. Have you looked through the forum and checked out the 'playgyms' that others have for their birds? They are awesome and if we ever get another budgie I will also get a playgym for him!
That's a good idea, taking out the treat stick and just giving it now and again, I believe too much 'treat' type foods can be fattening. There's a lot of brilliant advice on the forum about feeding, especially veggies, pelletted food, seed, etc. Oh and fresh water changed at least once a day.
Have fun with your little one's, and I look forward to reading more about them, it's so nice to hear about the pleasure that these beautiful little birds can bring.
