Hi all. This is my first post.
I have a budgie about 10 years old.I rescued her from an isolated existance in a dark bathroom. She was very active after the rescue..She had a male partner. She used to sing and swing and twirl.
We notice a lump in her tuimmy quite some time ago...thinking it was a egg we waited and nothing happend. We wrote it off thing she was getting fat as her mate died and perhaps she was depressed.
Weell, a few years later she tried to expell an agg!It was very bloody and hard and she was unable to do it. I took her to the vet and he removed it surgically without any anesthetic. He said it was peterified and had beeen there (probably)since his mate died.
Is this possible?
Now she has 2 lumps and cannot /will not expel. She gets poop stuck to her bum every couple weeks and I have to bathe her to remove it!
I cannot keep taking her to the vet.He says that it traumatizes her too. She is a very strong willed bird and should be let be..
Does anyone know what this could be...
Oh, I have so much to say...LOL

Your poor sweety! I am very skeptical about an egg having been there that long. It would have killed her had it remained in her body for that long. Is this the only egg she has laid? It sounds like an x-ray or an ultrasound is in order here. This is certainly not a normal situation...Was she seen by an AVIAN vet specialist? It sure doesn't sound like it!
If you are looking for one, have you tried looking one up here?:

Telita,
I'm very sorry about the problem you've been having with your rescued Budgie. I couldn't begin to give you an answer, but please know that I'm sorry you both have to go through this. At least you are trying to make her as comfortable as possible, and that should count for something . . .
It was so wonderful of you to have taken a Budgie out of a bad environment and give her a home and partner. How sad that the partner has now died. How long ago did he die? The vet seemed to think that the egg binding could have happened when she lost her partner - so I'm curious how long ago that's been?
Your little Budgie-friend has been tramatized in more ways than one, hasn't she? The poor thing . . . I feel so badly for her. I hope things improve for your little girl. One thing for sure, you can be very happy that she has lived a nice long life of 10 years or so.
Oh yes, I also wanted to say, "WELCOME" to the forum. It is really nice to have you here. Hopefully we'll hear much more from you in the days to come. :)
Have a great day!

It does seem odd. I know!
I did see the egg as I was in surgery with her.
It truly did look like it was old wood. It broke in pieces as well when handled.Definetly an egg tho.
My poor baby went thru that with no anasthetic:(
The vet is not particularily avian only.he does all small animals..I have no where else to go.There is no one here.
It was in there that long,I can attest to this!.
Her mate died and that was when the lump showed up.4 years...

Donna...thanks for being so sweet!
This is indeed a mystery!I love her sso much...
I am trying to keep her as comfy and happy as I can...She is very strong and has been struggling for many years actually.
I wonder if grit would help. She refuses anything like this..she gets angry if anything is "added to her cage".
LOL
I gave her one of the black (coal?) squares for birds. They should last months and she cheweed it apart in 1 day and was totally black by the end of it. Took a long time be white again. She is a strange bird!
Yes, my vet thought that the trauma/loss of her mate(I rescued them together),stopped the process .
That was 4 years ago.
There is many things that I need advice with...but one problem at at time:)
I really appreciate your kind words...
Thanks for the welcome.
I had stopped by awhile ago and read many posts .but. I did not know I could jpoin as easy as I did...Darn! i wish I had known..
I am happy to be here...

Thanks Telita, for your kind words. It really gave me a lift to have you say such nice things. :)
Just to share a word with you about grit - Studies have shown that using grit is unnecessary for Budgies and that it is actually destructive to their health so I would advise you to not use it. I bought a small box for my Budgies and barely used it when I later read the report on grit.
Wow, I can't believe your poor little Budgie carried around an egg for 4 years. OUCH!!!! I'm surprised she lived through it. That just goes to show that she is indeed a fighter. You are so fortunate to have her.
Now that I've read your post, I'm so glad that you decided to join the forum and become a member. It's too bad that a misconception kept you from joining sooner. I really hope that you will like it here and that you'll come back often.
As far as your signature goes, I just went to the link that is showing on your profile page and I clicked on it. When it took me to your page in the photobucket web site, I just took the link that was in the search bar and copied and pasted that link to this page. It is longer than the link you posted on your profile page and so you were missing the full code that you needed.
All you need to do now is click on the words "user cp" on your profile page. Then look in the left hand column and click on "edit signature." Now you are ready to copy and paste this link
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b301/Telita/Halloween/MK-Marilyn_Witches_Cat.jpg
inside the big blank box, and then click "save signature." Before you copy and paste the URL link into the box though, make sure to add [url]to the front and end of the link. It's not showing up right now on the post I'm sending you so that is why I'm saying to make sure you add it to the front and back of the link before you save it. (Before you save the signature, you can preview it by clicking the preview button to see if the signature appears in picture form.) If it's exactly the way you want it, then just click "save signature."
I hope that I've explained it clearly enough for you. I'd change it for you myself but I can't do it because I'm a Moderator and not an Administrator. Feel free to contact Dave or Budgiekin for further help, if needed. They could actually do it for you.
Thanks for the hug,
Donna
