I just noticed that Ozzy is standing on his perch but only standing with one foot. he seems to have the other one tucked up under him.

Is this normal behavior?

if so how long is it okay for him to do?

This is normal. They usually sleep and rest that way. It gives their foot a break and body heat is lost through the foot so I imagine it also helps keep them warmer.

Yes, it is completely normal behaviour.... In fact, it can be cause for concern if your budgie is always standing on BOTH feet! ;)

It is normal BUT make sure they're not standing on one foot constantly. My bird had to do that when his foot was crashed between the door and it usually idicates pain when they lift the same foot TOO much

Jennifer,

I just read your post on wondering if it's normal for your Budgie to stand on one foot while perching.

I had to laugh because I have 3 of my 4 Budgies next to me right now (by my computer) and all 3 of them are sleeping and perching on one foot only.

From what I can tell, Beaker and Niblet are right handed and Sunny Sunshine is left handed, ha! Hmmmmmm???? :S :S :S

Your post was good timing on my Budgie's part. :D

Hi Jennifer,

Just so I can say that I'm sticking to the subject of this thread (about perching on one foot) I need to tell you that I'm sitting at my computer right now (on a chair) and both feet are perched on the floor. There, now I can say that I haven't gone "Off Topic."

So, have you recovered from your "Almost having a heart attack" yet? (From seeing the Iowa flag by my username?) If it will make you feel any better, I almost had one too! And it's all your fault. You told me you were from Iowa.

Dave (Our Administrator) just added this flag option a couple of days ago. It looks like it has already paid off using it. . . .Thanks for speaking out about both you and I being from Iowa because your profile page and posts do not identify you as being in Iowa.

I'm done perching now,
Donna
