My parent birds want to mate again (especially the male) and Budgie is now responsive to it. The two chicks they have are only 13 and 11 days old. The male Oscar is being a good father so I am loath to take him away. Any suggestions or is this a hopeless cause? At the moment I put him in another cage but he is pretty unhappy about it.

Well if you really don't want them to have chicks then you should seperate them. It's kinda cruel having them breed all the time. And if you were a mother and he was your kid that LOVED Ice cream, would you let them eat it until he gets too sick??

I was thinking about the chicks, whether they need two parents at this point or not.

How old are they pal0m1no?The chicks < . The only way is to separate them my budgie pair once they started they didnt want to stop...so I seperated them for 8 months after 4 clutches. Its ahrd to keep them seperate becuase they squak and sqauk! What sex are the chicks male or female? Do you know?

The chicks are 13 and 11 days old. The hen is not young and I only let her breed because she kept laying eggs. Don't know the sex of the chicks yet. Would keeping them in the dark for longer periods each day curb it?

Yes they definately do need both parents still...I know it sounds weird but actually my Budgeis bred in the dark...they had no light schedule than I moved them into a room with no windows and they bred. I think its just the change in the lighting plus "dark" triggers eggs to form tahts what I read, the nest box is dark and when teh hen sits in it more and more the eggs in her body develop. Thats what I read. I would get ready some handfeeding supllies...if they already mated they might have eggs and throw thier chicks out of the nest earky or worse abuse them. Just get ready you can't separte the parents 13 and 11 days is way to young:( get some handfeeding formula and reasearch handfeeding.

I would leave them with the chicks. If the hen alys an egg. Shake it. It will adle.

If they are in a Breeding cage: When the chicks get to 28 days and can start to come out of the nest box. Remove the nest box.

If they are colony breed. When the chicks get to 35 days and can start to come out of the nest box. Remove the nest box.
