turdboy is amazing. i got a redfoot because they dont get huge like sulcatas. where do you live? he must live outside then if he is that big.
i wanted another tortoise but got a budgie instead. lol. they are an addictive animal. the lady at the pet store actually asked me why i would want a tortoise. she said they were the most boring animals ever, but obviously she has never owned one. my little booger has quite a personality.

Thanks :)

trust me, if i knew how big he would get back then, i'd never have brought him home! sadly, there was no info on them back then and i went with what the pet shop gal told me (all wrong, diet size etc.!)

But he's good, he's got the whole back yard to graze on all day, he has his heated shed to sleep in at night :)

we are in so cal

i totally agree.... he's got a great personality, chasing and knocking over anything in his way LOL

Softies parents have 3 or 4 rescues... imagine that load LOL

I don't have a tortoise but I have a snapping turtle and we also have loads of turtles in our pond. And I want a Red-eared slider someday.

Yeah. But he's still small. When he gets big we'll need an enclosed pond to put him in.

My sulcata, Savannah is bigger than your sulcata:p No really we had a sulcata surrendered to the rescue 10 years ago and he has been with us ever since. His past owner was a vet tech and getting ready to move so she asked us to take him in. He now weighs 142 lbs:eek: and is still a growing boy. He has one half of a two car garage (no cars kept in there it is fixed into part of the animal sanctuary) for in the winter or cooler times and grazes in a fenced in pasture area any time it is warm enough.

I always love looking at them when I'm at the pet store and would LOVE to have one. But I'd probably just get a red footed or a Russian tortoise. Although I think it's be very neat to have one that grew big like that. But I don't think I live in the right climate for one that wouldn't be easily housed inside.

BUUZBEE

yeah, in your zone its harder... too cold so they have to come inside for the winter!

Yeah and unless we own a place where it could have it's own special house I don't see a 100lb tortoise working. But I did just see these really cool plans for a table type enclosure for the smaller ones.

BUUZBEE

LOL... yeah, they get ya with the table tops!!!

i do have to say i'm lucky with turdboy... where we are in so cal, the climate is ok for him to be out all year long. he grazes all year on the lawn and weeds plus gets his daily veg's. But really doesn't bother us too much with food etc.

he'd be more a burden in other climates, then i'd be really kicking myself! but he's got a home with me for his 150+ year life (well, at least with me and my daughter after!)

Here's the table thing I saw and thought was a pretty cool idea.

Yes I think alot of people get thing beautiful creatures and don't realize they do grow. There's even a local rescue here in ID for them. And there's been a acouple that have been caught wondering across the freeway.

the good thing is there is SOOOOOO much more info on them than when i got turdboy. I cant imagine how things would be if i lived in a different area. At least here, he is free to do as he wishes, and has the housing needed. Its such a sad thing to read all the time about sullys having to be rehomed when the get too big :(

Wish they wouldn't even sell them in states where they can't live outside year round. And yes at least there's more info out there now but how many people research before buying?
