Ok, so some of you read my posts on how frustrated I was that I was making absolutely zero progress on my taming Misty. So today my 8 YEAR OLD SISTER (who is Misty's half-owner) came into my room and asked to pet Misty. I said, "Sure, but she'll probably just run away. If she gets scared, stop."

So my 8 YEAR OLD SISTER, who has never even TRIED to put her hand anywhere near Misty, slowly put her hand in the cage, pressed her finger against Misty's stomach and said, "Step up."

And guess what?!!! MISTY STEPPED UP!!!!! THRICE!!! For my sister, who is afraid to touch her 'cause she thinks she'll get bitten! Misty has never even let me pet her before!

Well, now I know just how bad of a trainer I am for my poor baby. :o I'm still really excited that Misty can actually be tamed. :laughing1: (I begged  my sister to help me tame her, & she said she would.)

Well, what do you think about that?

I'm so excited! Misty's making great progress already!! Misty will be tame!!! Misty won't be bored all day long!!!! Misty will sit on our shoulders and talk to us!!!!! Ok, I'm getting way ahead. I've been waiting all 4 months (exactly today) that I'v had her, for her to start bonding, and now she is! Yay!!!!!!!!

That is great news. I am also in the position of everyone else in my family has better luck handling the budgies than I do. I think it is because I am the one cleaning cages and stuff so it takes a lot longer to get used to the person who is always moving things around and such.

That's GREAT NEWS Animallover! :jumping1:  :jumping: :happy4: :urock:

Isn't that the way it usually goes when trying to tame your Budgie? I read a story very similar to yours on a much earlier post and they were shocked too, that a younger child had better results than they did.

Keep us updated on your progress. After all, one of these days YOU'LL be the one giving us tips on how to do things. . . :D

I have a feeling that your sister expects less of Misty than you, i know that was the barrier with me not being able to tame my second budgie after my first died. I wanted and expected the second to live up to the first and be tame and friendly. He never was. The first one i had no expectations and she tamed so easily, i was 8 and don't remember doing anything special to tame her. :P Now i've realised that each budgie is different and to have no expectations going in i've tamed 2 parent raised pet shop birds easily. Just goes to show how much we can do if we don't put pressure on from the start.

I think you're right, Bea. But I still think it's funny that Linnea (my sis) was always scared to put her hand near Misty, then all the sudden she was fine & Misty was stepping up. :)
