Ok...I have had my budgies since the end of february. Of course I was new going into this and bought 2 at the same time so they woudlnt feel lonely. I dont knowhow to go about training them. They dont fly around when I put my hand in the cage anymore but I dont get htem out cause they arent even hand trained yet. How do I go about hand training them and getting them to like me so I can get them out of the cage. I cant afford to get another cage so I dont know what I am going to do there. If I let them out with out being trained (I dont think there wings are clipped) will they go back int ehre cage or what?

PLEASE HELP!!!:budgie:

If they have been in the cage this long chances are they won't be very strong flyers. Make sure you are in a safe room and when they are out for the first few times they will probably tire very easily and if they don't lose sight of their "home" place of safety they should return quite easily. If you have to catch them, it shouldn't be too difficult since they will be weak flyers. Once they have learned how to get in and out of the cage they will at the very least return eventually. :) If their food is in the cage they will definitely return.

Mine pretty much prefer to hang around the top of the cage and when I want them to go in I gently herd them back and say cage as I am doing it. I believe they now know that when I say cage it is because I want them to return. But come to think of it, I actually tell Oscar to go home. :) Since he and budgie are currently raising a couple of chicks it is easy with him.
