not sure if many of you had seen it tonight, as it was showing in the uk
but i learnt something VERY interesting

hand reared larger parrots, such as a cockatoo is most defintally will grow up to have mentally promblems, as a lack of interaction with other birds while growing up,
but owners never reliesse this untill the bird reaches sexual maturity around 4-5 and the bird gets crazy but by then the owners are so aatched they'l do anything.

the answer for one women was to build a massive avairy and get a friend for a bird at the bottom of the garden to stop her cockatoo from turning into a nut job!

This is good, Nice to know that people care enough to come up with solutions!

I read about this in the paper. Good for those people.

It's good that people care and want to do something about animals with special needs. Instead of putting them down.:budgie:

Yes, cockatoos especially can be very tricky.
You can't just give them a partner either. Murder is not unheard of with cockatoos:( They are not a good pet bird for most people.
Many handraised birds turn into "velcro" birds and want to be attached to their owner at all times. In some cases, when their parter, the human, interacts with other people, they can bite:eek:
I am going to stick with small birds...

My Macaw has misplaced agression issues. When I'm holding him and someone comes up, he gets jealous and will bite me.

Once of the main reasons so many breeders co-parent now.

I've heard about this before too...surprised it is still done actually. Large parrots really are not cut out to live a human lifestyle. We sort of force it upon them and they are so intelligent/capable that they just about adjust to it. I don' t think we know enough about them yet. I'm glad to hear that there are people willing to follow through and help out these poor birds!
