Eating Bird Seed...

We kind of hijacked Bea's thread about Ozzie with seed eating. So I created a new thread to discuss this. All posts not about Ozzie were moved into this thread.

I've eaten some of those little round seeds before, one at a time, just out of curiosity. :P Of course they didn't have much taste because I just ate one. But I definitely wasn't good at opening it up like the birds can.

bird seed, I have it all over the place in my house lol. no matter how much i clean i will turn around and there is somemore. LoL. Eating bird seed are we.. hmm :laughing2: Let me know how that is. I had trouble dehusking, so I ate the husk and all. :P Those budgies are masters at it though. I might get lessons from them. Maybe Blinkie can teach us in one of his picture threads!

What kind of seed did you eat? What did it look like? I imagine the colorful pellets might taste bad. I've never eaten them, and my budgies don't eat them either!

I've tried both the regular seed mix, seed treats and even pellets. Pellets were really gross and so was the honey treat! The regular seed mix is yum though.

I'm not trying this, but let me ask anyway. If we were to eat a bowl of seed as a meal, how nutritious would it be for us? I'm just curious.

Well thats an interesting question. I have absolutely no idea. Ummm . . . Do you think my sweeties are playing the "I'm not eating trick" on me? Because it seems that they are eating, but only millet. If they are only eating millet, is that bad? I put veggies in their food today, maybe thats the reason. :budgie:

This is such a funny thread! If you could ever convince any of us to eat an entire bowl of seeds, I'd be REALLY surprised! It would be much easier to do with some milk added to the bowl so it could be eaten like cereal. I think we'd have a hard time getting enough calories from eating seed; and not to mention no variety if that is all we were allowed to eat!

As far as the millet question, no it is not a good idea to have your budgies eating only millet. HOWEVER, when you have new budgies, this is often the ONLY thing they will eat for the first few days, so there is no harm in offering it to them so they eat SOMETHING. Just make sure you continue to offer them a variety of other foods like seeds, pellets, veggies. . .

iv eaten most types of seed... they all taste the same apart from sunflower seeds... they r nice in an odd way :S

hmm... ive just bought some new seeds + didnt realise til i tasted them theyre citrus flavour, i thought it was strange that seeds tasted like oranges!! its weird tho, it doesnt say on the front that theyr flavoured, i hope they like it!! i didnt! its a bit dry, so maybe with milk it could be alright, i'm not volunteering tho!
