Zarrion,

Nero is sooooo cute! I love those cheery orange circles on his face.

I know that you no longer have your Budgies but how does having a Cockatiel differ? Are they more difficult to care for? They certainly are much larger than our Budgies.

You must be proud Zarrion. He's a "Keeper." :D

Unfortunately he is not tame but I think now would be the best time for me to start taming him. :)

I've put my hand in his cage quite a few times now and he's stayed really calm.

I would say that some cockatiels such as Nero take more time to settle into their environment as they don't like many changes. For one thing budgies are not so loud as cockatiels. I don't find much difference between the amount care but such as taming and training does need more work and space. :)

I never knew that it would take longer to tame a teil rather than a budgie but I did think they would be more aggressive. whats the training like then Zarrion is it the same as a budgie. Thing is they are much bigger than a budgie and that would put me off training them..IM A WIMP LOL XX

I haven't really tried yet but I have been looking it up on the internet. I found most sites are saying use a spare perch instead of hand since their nails look a little sharp. Others say use a towel to the tiel get in and out.

use the extra perch I recon that will be better than a towel, I would start trying to tame him now though Zarrion I have no idea how long teils take to train or when you should start but I recon the sooner the better..I recon it will be hard but you will get there Zarrion xxxxxxx

Nero is a pretty boy!! I find that the only difference is the temperament. Both Ozzie (budgie) and Cookie (tiel) came from pet shops and both as babies - both were tame within less than a week. Budgies chatter all day long happily to themselves - tiels don't do the chattering but they tweet pleasantly and the males whistle. Some scream (like Cookie) which is the most irritating noise but with training they wont do it. Their care and upkeep is much the same.

I agree Bea. :) My Nero is a screamer, well he hasn't done it today as usual because he's getting too obsessed with his multi bell toy which has a very small round mirror.

I'm looking to start applying clicker training to help with Cookie's screaming - i'll let you know how i get on with that - maybe it can help with Nero's screaming too.

It may! Mind since I've had him he's cutting down on it now. :) I think I found why Nero was screaming. He was trying to communicate with the birds outside since there is a field at the back of me where the blackbirds fly down on. :p
