Peter Knew
Some of you know that Peter was the budgie of my childhood. A very special budgie to me! Peter was very friendly and very out going budgie a real social butterfly! Anyone could pick Peter up with their finger and the words “step up”. Also Peter loved to ride around on shoulders and if someone else came along and was going the other way Peter would just hop on.
Now I will tell you about the relationship between Peter and my Mother! My Mother would try to pick Peter up but no way. Peter would bite my Mother very hard….I mean he would draw blood. Peter had no problem hopping on my Mother’s shoulder if he wanted to ride around the house. Peter just would not let my Mother pick him up from anywhere. Peter would also bite my Mother if she tried to put her hand in his cage. Draw blood he would every time!!
Without going into a lot of detail I would just say that my Mother has a very abusive personality. I think back to Peter always biting her and I just have to think that Peter knew!!

How very clever budgies are, they obviously sense someone's 'personality' I think that Peter would have loved a taste of my mum-in-law! :D

I don't think most of us realize what capabilities animals have. They are very smart and are a great judge of character.
Animals know when we're sad and when we need a lift. They know just how to comfort us and give us what we need. They are always happy to see us and they don't argue or talk back. (Well, most animals don't, anyway) :D
And Jan, you crack me up! Your Mum-In-Law, indeed, ha!
Have a great day!

Your are right Donna, I don't think we give our little budgies enough credited when it comes to some things. We all know about their talking capacity but what about some of the others things that they might sense.
Oh Jan...mum-in-law! Don't we all feel that way some days. LOL

I am sorry about your mother. Must be tough. I hope you have someone with whom you can talk about it. :(

Don't feel bad. I grew up to be a happy person with a kind heart to animals and people. Understanding your past is the answer to your future. Besides there are some funny sides to it....like the story about Peter my childhood budgie. When I was young I never understood why he would just bite my Mother. It was only when I got older and looked back on things.

Hmm, my budgies have never liked my mother either.
I had two once, Paulie and Angel, and I think they hated her the most. Whenever my mom would come into my room they'd start screeching like crazy!
Kyler does it now, also. They sure are smart birds...

All animals are very sensitive to people and seem to see right through their personalities. Peter was one of them that just saw through her. I had something very similar happen with my dog (when I lived back in delaware before I had birds, my mom had a dog), and there was one guy she hated. We coudn't hold her back from trying to bite, growl, attack, etc. She even clawed, growled and barked at the door after putting her in a room. . .funny thing is she was a black lab that was comletely harmless otherwise. Trust your animal's instincts when it doesn't like a person. . . Peter sounded smart, lol :)

Wow! What an intuitive little budgie Peter was! It is really amazing how they behave differently with different people. Thanks for sharing that great story! ;)

Animals function on a level of communication which is unbeknownst to most humans. Animals use body language, as well as sounds to communicate. Humans rarely use anything beyond language, or so they think. Humans communicate with body language much more than they realize, and animals pick up on that. A human's body language betrays theur mind, meaning often animals can see what is truely in their heart before people can.
It is actually possible for a human to learn to use such animalistic body language, and mastery of this art allow deeper communication between other humans, as well as our animal friends.
