What kind of string is safe for Budgie toys? I'm thinking of stringing some cheerios and not sure what is safe.

TIA :budge:

You can also use that brown twine. Craft stores have a lot of stuff you can use for toys.
The only thing to remember when making toys with string is to be super sure that when you make knots or ties that they're really tight. We don't want their little toes getting stuck. ;)
Your little guy likes cheerios? I tried them but it didn't go over too good.

I use what most people call "butchers twine" but Its a cotton string on a cardboard roll

I also use shoe strings (new of course) and the strings from Hoodies & jogging pants that fall out or one side messes up and you can't get it to where its supposed to be any more

We had a budgie a while back that loved Cheerio strings. You've just reminded me of that. I should try it with Kogo_Shuko's newest editions. They've never been given anything other than bagged budgie seed and honey sticks.

I use hemp string....I have seen toys in stores with that plastic string and I have avoided it, but it sounds safe so I'll have to find some so I can make my own with it...I am guessing that I look for non-toxic on the package?

Thanks for the replies guys. I just asked the butcher at the local supermarket for some string and he glady gave me some. My little Coby ate a little bit of the cheerio from my hand but is now playing with them. Silly bird :)

I use hemp string too!!! :D

Off topic, but just wanted to mention that I've been able to get these strings back into jogging pants and hoodies by attaching a large safety pin to the string. Then I manipulate that safety pin around and back out the other side. Takes a few minutes, but works (unless you want to use the string for bird toys anyway!) :D
