Wait for them to settle in before trying to touch them or anything.

Make sure they have water, food, toys, perches, thing in the bottom of the cage to collect poops, ect.

Are they making any noises?

I hope you enjoy your budgies!

No they are not making noises. Bluberry is letting me touch her though. No tembling. Not kidding, either. Pickle is a fickle one! :) You'd think Pickle was the bravest. Ha!

Ha ha! Well I hope you get some super tame budgies soon!

Maybe in a few days you could try finger training and introducing step-ups.

I hope they enjoy a long and happy life with you!

Pickle has runny poops! is that a sign of sickness?

Amy
03-26-2006, 04:40 PM
Erm well I don't want to upset you but... yes.

Maybe you should separate the two of them and put him in a sort of quarantine and see an avian vet.

Oh I do hope he's alright!

How runny are they? Are they like a big splat or just a bit runny?

Normal poops are black/brown/greeny with a white middle.

At this stage i'd say it's a sign of stress but keep an eye on it and if it stays that way for several days then go to the vet. The chewing actually sounds like beak grounding which would be a sign that he's content. Are they babies? If they are i'd get right into taming...i believe the settling in time basically just allows the budgie to feel secure in it's cage and then not want to leave the new 'safety zone'.

his are like that except with a runny circle around the outside. mom says it is cuz he is just freaked out

Amy

Congratulations on your new little feathered friends!!! :D

Bea is right, your little budgies are settling in and it may take a few days before they start to feel comfortable enough to move around in their cages and eat their food. I would say that the runny poops are a sign of stress too.

You can certainly play music for them! It is good to have some kind of background noise as silence can be quite scary for them. I usually have the television on when I'm not home to keep the house from being so darn quiet.

You can start introducing your sweeties to veggies anytime too (just make sure they are WELL washed). Grated carrots and cooked broccoli (wait till it cools to give it to them), are great sources of vitamin A and other nutrients. Even if they don't eat them, keep offering those foods to them daily as it would likely take a while for them to actually realize it is food and is edible. You can offer smaller quantities of fresh fruit too (apples with out the seed, banana. . . )

Have fun with your sweeties!! If they don't start eating soon, try putting a food dish right near a perch they like to hang out on and/or try sprinkling some seed along the bottom on their cage. Good luck and I know you won't have any trouble keeping us updated! :p

Guess what? They are moving around and eating! Blueberry mad it to the top perch! And they seem to enjoy the music. They are quite calm now. Also, go Pickle! No more runny poops! :)

Yay! Mom tried to get Blueberry on her finge but she decide "No way! I like this place but that finger is starting to freak me out!" So, maybe in a few days. :p I am so happy about my budgies!!! My mom got them a week early cuz she was sick of hearing me talk about them non stop.

Yes but my step-dad put the cage way up high so the cats can;t get at it. Thats okay, but now I can't reach them to take care of them Without a stool, but even then I can barely reach!

Dave

Amy
03-27-2006, 03:14 PM

They proberly think they're in a tree.

Budgie_Birthday
03-27-2006, 03:51 PM
No its not that, its just that I am kinda short for my age.

Are you sure its good if I can't reach to put their food in?

Its hanging from my ceiling. My room isn't that big, but then again neither am I. :p

Amy
03-27-2006, 03:56 PM
Well you will need to give them food each day so... Get out 29 stools!

Budgie_Birthday
03-27-2006, 03:57 PM
I'd break through the ceiling that way! :p

Amy
03-27-2006, 04:03 PM

Amy
03-27-2006, 04:19 PM

~*Brittany*~
03-27-2006, 04:20 PM

Sorry... maybe i care too much?

Budgie_Birthday
03-27-2006, 04:21 PM
no such thing as caring too much for your pets.

~*Brittany*~
03-27-2006, 04:23 PM
Agreed. Hey! You need to get pictures posted of your babies!!!

Budgie_Birthday
03-27-2006, 04:35 PM
I wish I could but I don't have any film for my camera! And its not digital so the pics will come out all wierd. I'd have to scan them.

Budgie_Birthday
03-27-2006, 04:41 PM
Pickle is being mean! He keeps acking very loudly at Blueberry so she nearly fell off the perch! I think he is trying to drive her away. What do I do?

~*Brittany*~
03-27-2006, 05:08 PM
Unless they start fighting, just let it alone.

Did you get them both from the same place. (have they lived together before)
If they have, then they are just figuring out thier territory. Dont worry about it unless pickle tries to seriously injure blueberry. But really, they should be fine. A little squabbling is normal.

Budgie_Birthday
03-27-2006, 05:11 PM
Yes I got Pickle and Blueberry from the same place and same cage. So, it doesn't really matter? They'll stop eventualy? :)

~*Brittany*~
03-27-2006, 05:22 PM
As far as I know. They are just figuring out territory and stuff in thier new home. Or they might be like that for a long time. Budgies are like people sometimes. They are just kind of going " Ok this is my perch, you can have that one" u kno?

Budgie_Birthday
03-27-2006, 05:38 PM
Yup. Thanks. :)

Budgie_Birthday
03-27-2006, 05:49 PM
Ha! Pickle is eating so much millet again! He looks like a perch potatoe except he's on the floor of the cage. Blueberry is on the perch right above him. It is so cute! I would get a pic, but I don't have a camera! :(

Budgie_Birthday
03-27-2006, 07:29 PM
Actually I kind of do. My brother lets me use his but he doesn't have any film so...yeah.

Budgiekin
03-27-2006, 07:31 PM
I just wanted to make a suggestion for you since your two little sweetie pies are sharing the same cage and exhibiting some signs of territorialism. It is a good idea to provide two small food cups and two small water dishes. That way while they are working out their territorial issues, one won't prevent the other from being able to eat by hogging the food and water cup. :)

Budgie_Birthday
03-27-2006, 07:32 PM
Well they've stopped. But I'll keep that in mind if they do it again. Also, did you know that 4 people are registering at this moment!!! :)

Amy
03-28-2006, 10:58 AM
Wow really that's good but off topic!

I agree with budgiekin have 2 water containers and food cups.
