Today I went to the pet store to get Bobby some more treats and toys. I was walking around the bird area picking up millet and a mineral block and trying not to look at the budgies...(cuz i knew i would fall in love with one).
I finally gave in and walked over to the budgies. I was doing really good until I saw a beautiful royal blue budgie with a white (almost yellow) face. The little boy was looking at me with his dark eyes and I knew I had to get him!!! The next thing I knew, I was buying a quarintine cage and some toys for the new budgie.
I need help picking out names. I will post pictures when he calms down and gets settled in.
what do you guys think?
Good for you! I'm glad you got a male, 2 males are the best conbination!
I can't wait to see some pics of him!
What about Bobby, Brittany & ?
I can't think!
Hmm will post some names when I think of some!

:( Updates:
The new budgie is acting like he has been here for a long time. I would say he is completely comfortable. Though, I do have some concerns...
1. His poop is runny. Like.... really runny. I keep comparing him to bobby and the poops look rather sickly. However, the thing that puzzles me is he isnt puffed up, and he is preening his feathers like he is healthy. I know it cant be stress because his bottom looks like its been that way for awhile. My mother won't take the new one to a avian vet, she says if its sick we have to take him back.... :(
So what do you think i should do.
2. He is a lot older then Bobby. I can see that when i walk from room to room doing my comparisons. Also, other then preening, he doesnt do anything. I have had him all day and he doesnt really move much. I dont think bobby will like having a friend that is so... boring? Maybe its just me... but this bird looks like he is at the end of his days.... :'(
3. Not just his age... but this budgie seems mean. I put my hand up to his cage and he yelled at me and bit my finger really hard. He drew blood. I'm not afraid of the budgie biting me, but what if he bites bobby???
Im not complaining because I already LOVE this bird. Im just really worried because im so protective over my little bobby.
What do you think I should do? I'm not going to name him until I am sure that he will be alright and that I will get to keep him. Otherwise i will cry for days. Please help!

Good news!
The bird was just stressed. Sorry for overreacting.
His poop is still a little runny but its getting better. and I have aged him.
He is between 2-4 months.
I left him alone and I went and played with Bobby. Once I came back, I put my hand to the outside of his cage with some millet. He came over and ate it out of my hand.
After a few, I put my hand in the cage. He didnt mind. So I attempted to get him to step up....
   He did.   I was so surprised!!!!
He is sleeping now.
Wish me luck!

Just remember that patience is key when you are dealing with budgies, particularly new ones. Some budgies can take a couple of weeks to really adjust to their new home. Put yourself in your budgie's feathers and think about how you might react to certain situations like having a rather large human hand come near you, being in a completely foreign environment. . . . .
You haven't had your new little fellow for very long, so give him some time to adapt to his new surroundings. It sounds like you are on the right track by offering him millet and getting him to step up on your hand to eat it. That is true positive reinforcement for him!! :p Keep that up and you will surely have a happy budgie! (Just don't give him TOO much millet or he will end up as a perch potato - in other words a "pudgie budgie"!)

i got some names whast about Cloud, Skylar, Turquoise, like any of those?? i tried to match them with his colour
I like Cloud, Skylar is a bit girly and he's blue not turquoise.
Billy is mostly turquoise even though he's got some yellow, blue and green on him! Quite a mixture!
jonathanH
03-27-2006, 01:34 PM
turquoise is not that colour of billy it can even be a blue so that is a good name for him too!!!!!!!

I went through hundreads of names and I was thinking about one....
I dont want to name him just yet though because he is so sick.
He hasnt eatin anything (no traces of shells at all) and he has a wet tail. He has runny poops. They are a browinsh yellow (((Im kinda grossing myself out haha)))
Also, Its confusing me because he has this, but he is climing on the bars of his cage, and talking to me, and chirping with glee! He will even sit on my hand. I just dont know...
My mother thinks we should take him back. But he is such a joy to have!!!
I do want a helthier budgie but I love this baby with all my heart. The thing is... My mother is telling me that because he is new, and since I havent had him a long time... She refuses to take him to an avian vet. Or a vet in general. Im heartbroken... But we are probably going to have to take him back. :sad3: :dunno: :upset:
*frowns* Poor baby.

aww poor thing i thought he was getting better i no it is hard now to take him back since you have already grown attached!:(
Oh dear, what can you do?
Maybe ask the pet shop to have him on a sort of trial, even though you already have him, but if his health deteriates even more you could take him back.
How much did you pay for him, by the way?
~*Brittany*~
03-27-2006, 02:03 PM
Well for Bobby I paid $20 at the same store. Bobby is COMPLETELY healthy.
Then we went back and they had a big *shipment* <~~ Bad word when it comes to animals.
So they docked the price of the budgies down to $17
The poor baby is sleeping right now. That worries me because he just woke up...:(
Oh they were quite expensive then!
I payed £16 for Billy, Lily, Dusty and Misty but My Bobby was £24 even though he was ill.
~*Brittany*~
03-27-2006, 02:15 PM
I would have paid $30 for Bobby if I had to. But this little one... gosh I just dont know.
He heard Bobby talking upstairs... He started chirping back. Its the first time I have heard this budgie chirp. It made me cry. He chirps so quiet... and raspy. :sad3:
I just wish I could help him
Aww I'm so sorry. I hope he starts to get better soon!
Why don't you plead everyone to take you to a vet, and quick!
He sounds like he needs medical treatment.
~*Brittany*~
03-27-2006, 02:24 PM
I have begged, pleaded, cried, kissed feet *im not kidding*
She says "Either he gets better by tonight or we take him back" :( :sad3:
I've even made it perfectly clear that if we take him back, all they are going to do is let him sit in a cage in the back until he dies... :sad3::sad3::sad3::sad3:
Maybe show her this thread then she might see how serious this matter is.
I hope that he gets to go to the vets and get better. He really needs to.

03-27-2006, 02:59 PM
Im not sure but I might just keep the budgie. Maybe I can get enough money to pay for a vet visit. Im trying to find work so i can get money of my own. Hopefully I can raise enough in time!!!
And I guess, if I DO loose him... At least he has a good home until the end right?
I guess I just have to wait for Bobby to have a friend.
And I keep forgetting to ask.
If the new budgie does get better, how long does quarintine last?
jonathanH
03-27-2006, 03:11 PM
you are completly rite even if you do loose him he had the chance to have a home and a loving owner like you i hope he gets better soon!!!
Around 30-40 days, sorry!

Unfortunitaly, he passed away today. I held him as he went. I'm not sure what he had, but nothing I could have done would have saved him. R.I.P sweet little budgie. Just know that you were loved :sad3:
Thank you to everyone who tried to help me with my little baby.

Oh I am so sorry. At least someone loved him and he didn't die homeless. . . :sad3: It probably made him feel even more loved that you were holdin him while he died. "It is hard to deal with the death of someone who hasn't died"-Nancy Gerber. Feel better soon.

You are very welcome Brittany. I know what it is like to lose a precious little pet. Some people don't understand the impact that our little critters have on us. I like to say that when our pet hurts, we hurt too. When our pet dies, part of us dies too.
Okay, I better stop typing now. I am starting to get teary-eyed!

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. :( This might sound a bit harsh, but maybe you could, uhh, trade him in for another one. I realize that's a mean thing to say, but if you still want another budgie maybe they'll replace him free of charge since you had him for such a little amount of time.

My dad took me back to the store this evening. (With poor sky wrapped in a washcloth and me holding him and kissing him... wierd i know but I couldnt stop crying)
The people told me that he was under warrenty (like a sofa...) and that I could get another budgie if I would like. Im not getting him today, But I did pick one out that looked exactly like my sweet sky. They are taking this one to the vet tomorrow (on their tab) to make sure that he doesnt have the same thing poor sky did. Im going to disinfect the cage and I should get the budgie either tomorrow or by the end of this week. I bought Egg biscuts and health food stuff for bobby (Just incase i carried what sky had over to him even though i always washed my hands in between birds) and for the new baby so they both stay healthy and strong.
Im pretty heartbroken right now because my mother kept telling me that I killed it. And all day when I was trying to tell her he needed to be taken care of, she told me I hated the bird... :sad3: She just doesnt understand I guess.
Bobby is doing great. The little sweetheart comforted me when i was crying. he even gave me a kiss.
I will tell ya when i get the other budgie. But for now, im just going to try and let my broken heart heal. :o

Oh my goodness Brittany! I am so sorry to hear that your mom has taken the view that you had something to do with your precious little budgie Sky's death. :sad3: It is completely unfair to burden you with that! You have done nothing but care for your new little sweetie while he was with you and I want you to know that you did not have anything to do with this horrible outcome. You do know that, right? Sky was clearly given the short end of the stick and I guess the little fellow just wasn't strong or healthy enough right from the beginning. I'm sending hugs to you!
I am so happy to hear that you were able to get some comfort from Bobby. It is obvious that you care for him very deeply. If you need someone to talk to, please feel free to send me a private message. I would be more than happy to listen to whatever concerns, fears or feelings you are having. Stay strong and just know that you gave little Sky a loving home during his short stay on this earth. ;)

Saying its my fault
But thank you for your concern Budgiekin
It helps a lot.
Im not going to go into my life story or anything for pity but yea...
its kind of how its always been *shrugs*
Well Bobby is doing alright. He is sitting on my computer right now watching me. lol
My sweet little baby boy.
I hope the new budgie is as wonderful as sky was
Mucho Love to you

I'm crying to. Poor little baby, he sounded so sweet.:(
I hope you start to feel a bit better soon.

Update:
Last night I was thinking, and I realize that Sky is probably in a better place. He was a sweetie and Im glad he got to die here and not that awful pet store.
Im going to get a call from the store today on the heath of my new budgie.
Bobby is doing good. He is rubbing his head all over everything because I disinfected his cage today (just in case). So he is kinda wierded out by the fact that he isnt allowed to go into his cage just yet. Im worried about him... A LOT.
Runny poops, and poofyness. I am using another drop of vitamins like the bottle says and I am watching his poops. I hope he doesn't have the same fate as sky. *knocks on wood*
He is happy though. That is what I dont get. Do any of you know about this sickness that the bird doesnt even know when they have it. Like, they act completely normal until they pass... or GET BETTER (as bobby will do)
Bobby is clicking like he is content and he chirps everytime i go "Whatcha doin baby?" Just like normal. So I think he is going to be okay.
OH and I bought those Egg Biscuts like... whoever that was... reccomended. those buggers were expensive! wow
Sorry I always make my posts so long lol.
Ill end this thing now :)
~*Brittany*~
I like long posts! So keep it up!
I'm so sorry to hear about your baby and I hope your new one will be a lovely health one!

i am so sorry to hear sky died and none of it is your fault you did everything you can all on your own and most of all you gave him a loving owner like you hope to see some pics of your new budgie when it comes!!
I'm glad to hear you're getting a new budgie! :D Still sorry about Sky though. :( And I'm sorry your mom seems to just be making things worse. I'm sure you're new one will live a long, happy life with such a great owner! :D

Awww thanks Dave. That means a lot that you would say that :D

Dave is right. You have such a caring heart to take care of budgies. :)
I am glad you got some egg bread. It is a good source of protein for them! (Yes, they are kind of expensive, but it will take them a little while to go through one biscuit). When I have some more time, I will post a recipe for some bread that I have made for my sweeties. They seem to really like it.
Keep watching your little Bobby closely as you are currently doing to watch for signs of illness. It wouldn't be a bad idea for all new budgies to get an avian checkup shortly after coming home with you.
Since you were kind of asking about illnesses in budgies in one of your posts, you should know that budgie illnesses (and illnesses in birds in general) are often very complicated. They have such small little bodies that they just can't fight off many kinds of infections. As a result, they often deteriorate very quickly. The sad thing is that not everything is even treatable. We just do the best we can as budgie owners to do what we think is best for our sweeties. :p
I've got some egg-food, is that the same stuff?
Budgiekin
03-29-2006, 11:13 AM
That should do it. Essentially, you are looking for a source of protein for your budgies, and eggs have it. :)
I also give them crushed up egg shells, both of them love eating that!
Budgiekin
03-29-2006, 11:30 AM
That's perfect! I'm glad they enjoy that. :p

I've seen your recipe and I'll make it later on, it sounds nice!:p
I've never thought of egg shells. How would you go about giving them egg shells?
You wash them, then crush them into little pieces and then serve!
Couldn't they choke or cut their mouths/throats on them though?
Budgiekin
03-30-2006, 09:16 AM
Just make sure you crush them very finely. Consider using a food processor to crush them.
Yes, As I said, Billy and Lily love them!
I'll just add, don't feed them too much!
If they get addicted to the stuff them only give it as an occasional treat!
Believe me they'll love the stuff!
I'm assuming you wash the egg shells prior to giving them to the birds?
Yes you do, to get rid of any yolk/whites which may still be there.
Feed it to them in a normal seed cup so they get used to it quicker.
