View Full Version : Sleeping on the floor?

I was just wondering if this is usual when they are getting used to their new home? Snowflake is otherwise seeming very happy and has normal poops. The main reason I can think of is that when I got her the pet store was keeping their babies in aquariums with toys and stuff. Snowflake is of course still quite young and doesn't seem to be 100% sure of herself footing wise. I believe she has perch/swing slept somewhat in the passed week or so but I'm not quite sure how much comparitively speaking.

Other than this behavior she is quite the rambunxious little one. She eats and drinks fine in and out of the cage. Hasn't quite mastered pellets but seemingly "chews" on them. I also believe she is getting enough sleep as she is in the dark for a good 10+ hours in which she is quiet and not begging for attention(not that I mind when she does). She also naps during the day sometimes after being out for awhile. She has also fell asleep on me once, I don't know if this could have anything to do with it though. It was in the same sort of position as when she is on the ground.

I don't know what else to say on the situation. If there is anything else that could help please feel free to ask.

One quicky please :

Do most budgies get tagged? My g/f said that birds should be tagged by the breeder but she isn't. If not is this something I should do? Should I get a vet to?(I have no qualms bringing her to the vet, she is allready a part of my family).

Thank you for your time!

Hmmm...sleeping on the floor of a cage is not usually normal as budgies tend to like to perch on the highest location when sleeping. However, I must ask you if you saw her doing this before you brought her home? If she didn't, what about the other budgies she was with? It is possible that perhaps there weren't enough perches where she was before you had her and she got used to sleeping on the floor.

You say her poops are normal and she seems to be quite energetic and eating well. Those are all good signs! I would still recommend you bring her to an avian vet, if not to check on the sleeping issue, but just for an initial checkup and to establish a relationship with an avian vet in your area.

As far as tagging budgies, it is certainly not neccessary. Many breeders will use colour coded tags to identify the birthdate of their budgies. If a budgie doesn't come with one (none of mine did), that is ok too.

I just wanted to say thank you and update everyone on her health. She still sleeps on the floor of her cage but I made a little bed for her which she loves. During the day she plays swing and perchs or climbs the cage or her toys. I am bringing her to the vet just cause but other than this she is in perfect health. She still begs to come out and we spend a lot of time with her. For some reason her absolute favorite place is my keyboard.

She is a very cute little bugger. Sometimes can be quite the brat but it's always worth the laugh. I don't notice anything odd about her but the sleeping on floor thing. To be honest I think she might be very young and never really perched much in the store either. Probably just a habit she will have to break. Other than that she is the perfect little one and absolutely adores our attention. Sometimes it breaks my heart when I put her back in the cage and leave the room. The little bugger starts to call out for me or something. I gave her a room of her own that no one is in for nighttime and soon will get a cage for her in my room for the day.

Have a nice day.
