PUPPY!
I could smash everything in my house from all the excitement! :D
NOW I'm not sure I'll be able to keep him/her but this person is no longer able to take care of it and I offered to try and keep it myself and if it does not work out I'd find the puppy an amazing life time home, it's a collie x husky cross which are like my 2 favorite breeds of dog in the world! I've wanted a puppy all my life because I would love to have a companion to walk with me when I go to the park and dogs can be the most amazing buddies for life! OMG! My mom said no but my dad said YES! ok.... me and my dad are going to pick up the puppy with out telling my mom but my mom let me have a boa which she completely FREAKED over and now she finds him cute.... but a puppy is cute and I'll keep it out of her way 2/4 7.
I've been bringing so many animals into the house even a raccoon so hopefully it won't be too bad. :o
I'll be picking the puppy up today.... I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Good luck with your puppy. Your Mom will most likely come around if she finds she doesn't have to do any of the work, so the more diligent you are about getting up early to take it out for that first walk of the day, or poop scooping your yard, the happier she will be. Is it already house trained? That makes a big difference.:)

No I don't think it's house trained yet so I'll need a large dog crate till it is,
I work at a pet store so I'm used to cleaning up after puppies all the time lol. :p My dad phoned me and said we would go down to get the puppy later maybe around 4pm... I'm going to take it for a walk to my friends house and get it a little jacket... but not for fashion, right now it's pretty cold outside and from what I've been told the puppy is 7 weeks old only! Does anyone have tips on house training a dog? or is 7 weeks too young still?
Thank you!

Congrats on the puppy. As for the potty training it is very easy. The nuber one rule to potty training a dog is never hit, yell at or put the puppys nose in it's poop or pee. The way I used for all my dogs is this:
If you see your dog pee or poop make a starting noise as soon as you see it and take the dog to it's potty spot. If you don't see it pee or poop then just clean up the mess and don't make a big deal about it. When you see your puppy pee or poop in the right spot tell it how good it was and give it a treat. Never send the puppy outside alone. If you hit or yell at yor puppy then it will just learn to pee or poop out of site so it will be to late to do anything when you find out about it. Dogs can't hold in there pee or poop till about 4-6 months.

there is a spray that supposedly tells puppies that this is where they should go potty. I have never tried it but it sounds intriguing, though probably the smell would not be good for the fids.
the way we are potty training Angelo is we buy those diaper mats and he always has one in his crate. Whenever he is out of the crate we place one in plane view and whenever he is sniffing thay particular way that means he is looking for a spot to do his business we carry him over to the diaper mat and say "Pichin, Popo" :P
he has picked it up very easily. the problem is he gets excited very easily and will often step on his poo or pee without realizing it.
a cool trick he picked up all on his own is whenever he pees in his crate he will fold the diaper over so he won't accidentally lay down in it. I have to get it on video soon!

So I'm going to try to start training him to go potty on a diaper mat maybe in a very low plastic box so nothing will leak through. When he hits 4 months then I'll try and train him to go outdoors, I'll have to be sure to remove the poop right away before my mom smells it lol. Thanks for the advice everyone.

There is only one down part to all of this....
I don't have a camera anymore as I sold it and wanted to get a better one!
But I'll try and get my friend to come out and bring her camera. :)
The man is going to deliver the puppy to me around 7:30 instead.

7 weeks is plenty old enough to train it to go outside. I'd never wait until a pup was 4 months old to potty train. And I have potty trained close to 20 pups between the pups I've gotten and the pups my dogs have had. And I don't even think I'd worry about getting it a coat it's a long haired dog. We got our sheltie pup when she was only like 8 weeks old and no coat and went right to potty training. And there was a foot of snow outside where we had to dig her paths and potty areas. I got a picture somewhere of it too. I think you'd be making a mistake if you waited to potty train until it's 4 months old.;)

Has she had any of her shots yet? You might want to keep her away from other dogs in the park until she has had them.

woah woah, hold up for a second! PLEASE DON'T TAKE YOUR PUPPY TO THE PARK!!!
I'm serious. There are strains of viruses that your puppy will be susceptible to until it is alot older. Like the Pavo Virus, which will kill your dog. PLEASE wait, and don't put her on any grass that you don't know what dog has peed or pooed there previously.
Secondly, potty training is very easy. We just used newspaper in the garage, and fed the puppy there. You'll find that as soon as a puppy eats, it POOS! Therefore, what we did was feed the puppy, then pick him up and put him on his newspaper and wait until he did it. (usually only a few minutes) We rewarded him, and then took him away to clean it up. But like everyone else said, accidents happen, and when they do, never punish your puppy.. it was only traumatise them, and if you put their nose in it, they develop a habit of eating their poo.
Thirdly, as your puppy gets better as going to the toilet on the desired spot, you can move that spot to just in front of the back door or something, and hopefully, (or so it worked with my pup) that he went to pee/poo on it, and when he saw the outside, just went out there to do it intstead - their instincts kick in.
Fourthy, when your pup is about 12 weeks, it'll be old enough to start Puppy Preschool :D This is soooo much fun, you can train your little one to do just about anything, and its a good socialising time so they get used to other dogs of other sizes. This is also the time when you can start taking your puppy outside to parks.
Sorry for all the info, but I really don't want the little girl to get sick because you didn't know.

I would suggest begginning crate training straight away. I did with my dog from when he was 8 weeks old.
Max is pretty smart and learnt in about two weeks :)

Congrats!
My advice: this is a combination of two working dog breeds. This dog with thrive with work, training like obedience or agility training.
I highly suggest two great books:
Family Friendly Dog Training: A Six Week Program for You and Your Dog (http://www.amazon.com/Family-Friendly-Dog-Training-Program/dp/1891767119/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1224739792&sr=1-1)
and
The Culture Clash: A Revolutionary New Way to Understanding the Relationship Between Humans and Domestic Dogs (http://www.amazon.com/Culture-Clash-Revolutionary-Understanding-Relationship/dp/1888047054/ref=pd_sim_b_15)
Two outstanding books

Thanks so much for that info! you could have saved my puppies life!
Well I have some good news about house training, I heard her barking yesterday and she was wanting something but I had no idea... I put her down then noticed she was bending down so quickly I took her in my backyard (pesticide free) and let her go outdoors and she did! both poop and pee lol, now I know when she calls me she has to go so I've been taking her outside every so often when she barks and she always goes outside now. Now I have some BAD news, she has FLEAS! well so far I've only seen 2 of them and her fur is almost all white so I can spot them easily, I'll be giving her a warm bath today with either dawn or baby shampoo (both are safe for her at this age) but I'm also thinking she's older than 8 weeks old from her size. Oh and she has been dewormed only, my manager at the pet store will be able to get all her needed shots for only like $15! :D I'll be getting them done this week then hopefully. :)
I'm also NOT going to let my mom know about the fleas... I'll just say I'm bathing her so she smells nice lol.

It's a pleasure to help :)
A puppy of that breeding will be quite big anyways, so I wouldn't necessarily go off her size to determine her age.. but you never know..
As for flees.. I can't imagine them sticking around too long.. they like to bite skin, and I'm assuming that your little pups fur would be thick enough (husky fur?) that they can't get in very well.. if not, there are some good safe shampoos out there you can try.
And congrats on the toilet training! Seems like you've got a very intelligent little (big) pup :P

Well her fur is not very long right now but I think it's still growing in as Collies and Huskies both have pretty long fur as they get older, I think your right about the age her size is right lol. I gave her a bath and so far I've not seen her scratch since, I'll be giving her another one tomorrow just to be safe. She's sound asleep right beside me, she's so pretty I'm trying to get my friend to send me her photos today! :p

That's nice that she's already smart about going potty outside. I really think some breeds are smarted about it then others too. I remember our little Sheltie pups just being little fuzz balls at that age.:D And size isn't a good determiner for age. When our Sheltie had pups there was one pup that grew to be alot bigger then the others.
A good rule for when to take them out is after sleeping, eating, and playing. And another thing is you can teach them to go potty on command. Just whenever she's going potty stand there and tell her "Good Girl go potty" over and over while she's doing it. And she will learn to go when you tell her to "Go potty".
Good luck with training her.:D

To stop fleas my dogs have these flea collars under their normal collars. They havent had fleas once. They have to be a certain age to wear them though.

When my friend had the Maltese, she always used that Advantage Flea Control stuff you put on from little tubes. It comes in formulations for dogs of different weights, and can be used on puppies older than seven weeks. It isn't as cheap as buying a flea collar might be, but it does work. You can get it for cats, too.

That's so true. We taught our puppy that. Whenever we say 'wee wee' he starts sniffing around for a place to go - of course we only say it when we have to, or if hes out the front with us. We also taught him to stop whatever he is doing and look at us, so now when we say 'stop!', he seriously freezes mid action.. sometimes with one paw in the air, or with his mouth open if hes playing with my older dog. It comes in handy for when we are crossing roads or if we're out the front and he sees another dog coming.. we know that we can get him to stop no matter what :)
There are so many things you can teach a dog, it amazes me! Like 'play biting'.. our puppy will bite us if we are playing, but when he was really little, if he bit too hard, we would yelp, and so he learnt how hard was too hard. Play biting, in my opinion, is something you NEED to teach your dog. Because if ever your dog was to get hurt by accident, they are most likely going to bite you as a reflex.. and if you havent taught them the boundaries, they will injure you too!
Anyway. End Rant. Sorry. Lol, I just like to spread some wisdom.. Dogs are one thing I know LOTS about :D
