another question: why are my budgies sneezing? i am curious as to why they do this or if this is relatively normal, because they seem to be behaving pretty normally and it only happens every now and then like once or twice, or at the most three times, in a day. they don't have sneezing fits or anything, just a few little "achoo"s every now and then.

is this something to be concerned about or is it just time to dust my house?

As long as there's not a huge amount of snot coming out sneezing is normal - just like we sneeze sometimes doesn't mean we're sick.

As Bea said, some sneezing is normal. They will sneeze if they get a little tickle in the nares (whether it's from dust or a little downy feather), much like we can sneeze when we get a tickle in our noses. Unless there are obvious signs of distress (like tail bobbing, discharge coming from the nares....), I wouldn't worry about the occasional sneeze. ;)

I was informed that if the seeds was not changed everyday, the empty hulls they leave in dish causes seed dust which makes them to sneeze. Make sure you change their food everyday or at least get the open hulls out and add fresh seeds.

thanks for that info, cliff! i do change their food and water everyday and check their seeds twice a day just to be sure, i think i can probably blame the sneezes on the amount of dust that is probably in my home. i need to start dusting and vaccuming more often i think!
