HI, I just got the bird today! A nice lady had said she found a loss parakeet and asked if I would like to give him a new home. So when we brought him home he was not the parakeet but to believe he is a love bird? Dose anyone know for sure? We know we can not put him into the cage with the other parakeets so we have him in one of our larger cages. Dose anyone know how easy to tame a love bird that's not tamed at all! Also, any tips with these guys that would make tameing easier on these birds? Any information from people who has tamed these birds before would be great, Thanks!:feedback:http://s95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/5shannon/th_twinkle1.jpg (http://s95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/5shannon/?action=view¤t=twinkle1.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch1)http://s95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/5shannon/th_TWINKLE.jpg (http://s95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/5shannon/?action=view¤t=TWINKLE.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch2)Do they eat the same food as parakeets?

Hmmmm, it is either a lovebird or a parrotlet. I'm actually not sure. You're right in that it is definitely not a parakeet as it's tail is much too short to fit into that category.
I'm afraid I will have to let someone else answer your question about taming the little sweety though. I have only ever had experience with budgies.
You'll need to get different seed and pellets for him but it will eat the same fruit and veggies. :) It looks like a lovebird to me. Tip: they bite HARD!!! My friend has one and it's mental, handreared by her and totally bonded to her but if any one else tries to play with it it will lash out and bite...often drawing blood.
Its a lovie. I really wanted one, wow what colors. If someone lost this little one im sure they will be looking for him. But if you keep him don't feed him only pellet. He needs seed and something to keep that beck dull. also not budgie food no. You can give a mix of budgie and lovie food but not only budgie
Definately a beautiful little LoveBird very rare color combinations!Just warning you what ever you do do not grab him or her being unprotected with your hands WARNING:these buggers bit hard I have 2 of them, most of the time they draw blood and tehy are very noisy HAHA I have 2 males. If you only have one "Shannon" it should tame easier becuase they bond very well. Yours does look young though. Under a year ughhh such a beuaty she Looks like she she is a "Austarilan Cinnamin Opaline" what a beauty! No unfortanely tehy do not eat the same thing as parakeets they eat the same thing as lovebirds but there are speacialized foods for them. If you have any questions P.M me I know lots about them, I have bred them befor to. I have 2 here they are:

Any chance it could be a princess of wales parakeet? I saw one in a petstore and I think it had a short tail. They sound like they could be very nice pets.

no idea, but he sure is cute!!!
what noise does a lovebird make, do they sing like a canary or squak like a budgie?
(stupid question i know, lol, but i dont have any at my shops to know, lol)
They have a SUPER HIGH PITCHED chirp - i personally hate it. :P
Lol thats a love bird for sure. I used to own two of them and he looks alot like them, different color but same build.
I wouldn't be sure, but I think you've got yourself a lovebird!
Like others said, they bite! I bird-sat a friend's lovie, and he bit me about 4-5times and it resulted to bleeding 3 times x[ ... But they get very close to their owners, just spend lots of time with him/her. My friend [Elsie] keeps him on her should all the time. She puts him in his cage at night, but that's about it, well unless she goes to a party or something where a birdie would be a funny thing to have!
Anyway, my point [which isn't very clear] is that if you give it love, attention and everything it needs, you'll be fine!
Take care of your new lovie! Have fun!

Thanks for all the feed back! The love bird has a very high HIGH pitch chirp. I have to admit I'm excitied to start tameing, since my budgies are so into there selfs now there more than 2 of them. But, I am a little nervous about getting bit. I know it's going to happen. I herd once you break there trust you cant get it back???? What happens if he bites, Dose that mean I loss his trust?????:S
Not nessecarly and yes you are definately going to get bit and lovebirds draw blood even if its the smallest bite...they are sharks of the bird world. It wouldn't loose its trust I don't think. It would just try and protect itself. Keep him/her away from your budgies becuase they are aggresive towrds other birds. If it dosen't become tame you could perhpas breed him or her and Hand raise a baby becuase that is a beautiful lovie you would get beautiful baby lovie's taht would be much easier to tame.

I think its a parrotlet. Ive never seen that colour of lovebirds before. My freind had a parrotlet and it was a similiar colour. Im not intirely sure though. yes lovebirds and parrotlets bite VERY hard since they have bigger beaks. Ive never actually heard there chirps before so i dont know. but no they do not eat the same food as parakeets. im actually not sure what they eat. If its a lovebird then they have lovebird food.. if its a parrotlet whcih i personally think it is then well im not sure... my freind had on i dont know what she fed it.. i can ask her if you want.
also yes you cannot put it in the same cage as a budgie, as the lovebird/parrotlet will kill or seriously hurt the budgie.
i jus check on the inertnet it looks like a:
Whitefaced Australian Cinnamon Light Pied... a lovebird.
