I have 2 parakeets obviously one male and one female and i found 2 eggs in the bottom of the cage. I have been told that now is not the time of the year for them to start breeding and i should remove the eggs and freeze them.
Is this what i should be doing?
I thought it was sweet that they were starting a family but i dont want their to be any problems.
Any advice would be greatly apppreciated
If you don't want them to be raising babies at the moment shake the eggs and put them back. Shaking them will stop them developing, you have to put them back or your hen will continue laying to replace the lost eggs.

thanks for your advice but i do want to have the offspring...i just heard since its the fall season already that now is not the time for her to be laying eggs and that i shouldnt let them breed.
Do you think it is okay for them to breed now?

Bea, obviously what do you do once you have shook the eggs, wont she carry on laying when she realises she cannot fertalize them. Then what do you do with the eggs that she has laid, and when do you move them. thanks xxx

Hello DaveM21,
I'm sorry that I can't help you with your question. I am new to this, also.
I do however, want to say WELCOME to the forum. We are so glad you have joined us and we hope that you will come back often.
What are your Budgie's names and what color are they? Are you a new Budgie owner and have you had your Budgies long???? Post some pictures if you can. We'd love to see them.
I hope you'll keep us informed about what happens with the eggs. It sounds exciting! :D

She will keep laying until she has a full clutch but as all the eggs will have been shaken and won't develop she will grow bored of sitting on them.

Yeah, are they indoors or outdoors? If they're indoors in a constant heat most of the year you can breed them at almost any time. :) Give them a nesting box and make sure that they're getting tons of veggies (more than usual - even if they've never eaten it before breeding birds often do) and have access to a mineral and iodine block. Giving them longer daylight (or artificial light) hours will help get them into breeding mode too as it will mimic spring time.

im a newbie to this site.. but i've had budgies all my life... and i've read heaps of books about it.. and had great advice from the pet store owner near my house...
your parakeets can breed anytime during the year.... and any season.. thats only if they are both ready.... when the girls cere is really dark brown and crusty then yerh shes ready and the males jst stay blue or or go darker.. but males a more active when they are ready to breed..
i think you should let them raise a family.. but buy them a breeding box.. you'll love every moment when they hatch..
peace

I know but its just what do I do with the babies once they areborn, I dont know how I will find the mnew homes, pet shops have their own breeders you see so they probably wouldn't take mine if I had any..If I had an aviary then it may be different but I wont be having one till the near futire xx
Don't breed just for the sake of it. You have to know you can take care of all the babies in the event that you can't rehome them. I don't like the idea of selling them to pet shops because a lot of you would know how unclean they are and you have no control over the homes they end up in.
