I have a beautiful green and yellow budgie named Keets who was handraised so recently I went to Petco(awful to get a bird there I know) and was buying some food and toys when I saw this adorable little white parakeet in the corner and I walked up to the glass and he didn't move he just stared and raised his wings up. It was spur of the moment and I bought him. Not thinking I placed the new parakeets cage next to Keet's cage. I'm worried the new parakeet could possibly be sick I've only had him two days his droppings are watery and bright-ish green and his vent is dirty. I figured its only because he is scared? But yet he hasn't budged I actually picked him up from the box to put him in the cage and he sat right on my finger when I put him in his cage. He hasnt tried to run or anything. He has been fluffed up since I got him and he hasn't moved in his cage at all except once he walked over and ate a tiny bit then just sat in the exact same spot the rest of the night. I'm worried if he is sick? But his nares are clear and he did groom his feathers a bit but is it common for a new parakeet to stay in one place like this and not move and also be fluffed up for 2 days and have a dirty vent? Because all the parakeets I've had before were so active and noisy when I brought them home and I kind of thought it was odd he was in a corner by himself when the others were on the swings but I couldn't help myself. I also have a yellow naped amazon and I do not want to put my babies in harms way with this new little guy.

Well, all mine were very shy and quiet when I first got them. So that is normal, because they are scared. I'm not so sure about the puffed up feathers...to me, that indicates illness. Any new bird should go to the vet, so why no take the new one in? To be safe.

Thanks I'm going to take him to the vet. I'm just overdramatic when it comes to my animals. I just find it crazy how calm he is? Maybe he is just use to humans? Heres two pictures of the new kid and one of Keets. =) (They are way prettier then the pictures because these are off my phone)

Your birds are very pretty. It may simply be kind of scared of the new surroundings. I would keep an eye out and if it continues to act fluffed up and not moving a vet check may be needed. Hopefully it's just the newnesss effecting him/her.

My new baby i bought last week acted the same way for a few days. When a bird gets nervous, it can make them have watery droppings. I think I would separate the cages to be on the safe side and if he does not start moving around more in a few days, get him checked.

Hopefully it's just the shock of being moved to a new home and with a bit of time your new bird will perk up. A vet check isn't a ad idea though, especially with other birds that have been near the new one. You may want to read up on quarantine for future reference to protect your existing birds when you bring a new member into the flock.

Calm, or scared stiff? Lifting the wings when you approach indicates the bird was frightened of you.
A dirty vet and fluffing indicates you probably bought a sick bird. Sorry. Take him to the vet. You may end up bringing your other birds that were exposed to the new bird. A dirty vent... that's not good.
Next time, quarantine.

Elvis doesn't look to be fluffed up like you would expect a sick bird to look. He is vey young so it may just be he is very nervous in his new surroundings.
He also may have been handled a lot and that is why he is pretty calm. But changes in scenery and food and water can often give runny droppings. It just sounds like stress. Keep them separate and a vet check wouldn't hurt.

I agree with that it is probably the stress of the move. You have beautiful birds :)

Elvis doesnt look 'puffed up' that much. Mine looks like that somtimes too... they just like to sit 'fat' sometimes.
But the watery poo and dirty vent don't sound great. Let us know how the vet goes. It would be good in any case to get him checked out, since he came from a pet store and not a breeder.

If he has a dirty vent and watery poo he is definately sick. You should move his cage to a different room right away to prevent the others from getting sick and get him to a vet asap. I couldn't say for sure what is wrong but something is. The sooner you can get him to a vet the better his chances of getting well. But please do get him into a different room and wash your hands well after handling him or his things before touching the other birds to avoid cross contamination.

If he has a dirty vent and watery poo he is definately sick.
Not really... New birds are nervous around their surroundings for about 5-7 days so they will have runny poop and a dirty vent. My Kara had both runny poop & dirty vent and she was perfectly healthy. But if the bird stays with runny poop/dirty vent for more than a week, i would take him to the vet just to be sure ..
He is such a beauty!! :D Congrats!! :P
you got lovely budgies :)
don't forget to post more pictures once he's settled in :)
:SBetter safe than sorry i would take him to the vet for check up you want to make sure he is well. After we go to the doctor when were sick. The little ones can't go on their own. I would definitely start quarntine away from Keets. oh and what sweet cuties they are.:o

i dont blame you he is very beautifull !!watery poo is normal for a new bird, generally from stress & new enviroment
but be carefull with the dirty vent, hold the bird and carefull wash it with cotton wool and water
it'll help it clear up and make your bird more comfortable
dont forget quartinne next time, you never know when they could be some hidden sickness >.<
