My dad bought some birdfood for my budgie, today, and it said best if used by 9/20/06. Does bird seed really go bad?

I have no idea, but i personally would go by the date on the food..it saves your budgie getting poorly xxx

Yes, it does. Seed that is out of date has no nutrition, the older the seed the worse it is. Definitely go and find some good quality seed that's within the use by date.

what about one that has a triple freshness zipper on it

You still shouldn't use it past it's expiry date. Seed and pellets usually have a long time from when you buy them to when they expire anyway.

I don't think seed can go that bad if it is open yes but zipped in a bag?

Bea is agian right. I just read this today in a budgie book I have. I also remember my mom saying that expired bird food attracts mice, I'm not sure if this is true or not.

It can, it gets old and starts losing nutrition.

It isn't in a zipped bag, it's in a plastic tub thingy with a plastic seal under the lid that has not been opened yet. I told my mom that it can go bad, but she said, "Oh, she's a bird. She'll be fine." I haven't fed it to Misty, though because I have a whole bunch of other birdfood that is in date.

yes it deffinatly will go bad, and with temp changes it can go rancid too
the best thing to do if you have a lot is to freeze it. you can do this will pellets too.
