I am more and more amazed as I read peoples stories about their Budgies, and find out what all they do.
My 3 Budgies are more secluded than most of yours probably, because I keep all 3 near my computer and desk in an upstairs office in my house. My babies are near me when I'm in the room (which is almost continual) and I play music sometimes for them, and of course talk to them - but any strange sounds usually sends all 3 Budgies into a FRENZY!!!!
I have read tonight on this forum about people who take their Budgies into the shower when they shower, and their Budgies love it. If mine hears water running from the sink, they are instantly scared! They do love a bath in a dish, though.
Also, I heard others say that their Budgies love to sing loud while the vacuum cleaner is running. Another said that their Budgie loves being "blow-dried" by a hair blower after a shower.
I am just so amazed at all of these stories. I can't believe that some Budgies are so scared of sounds and loud things, yet other people have Budgies that LOVE that type of thing.
If I start my vacuum cleaner around my Budgies, they run all over the room flapping their wings and squawking like they are running from King Kong!
I would love to know where you keep your Budgie's cage and how much interaction they have if you have one of the BRAVE BUDGIES.
And I would also love to read more about other people's Budgies when it comes to liking or doing things out of the ordinary. Budgies are just sooooo smart and I love them bunches!!!! :D
Have a great day!

Hello Donna, I have read some stories that make me giggle too, My budgie Edie,as she is a girl after all lol sits with me on the couch when I am watching television she is so tame and will fly anywhere with me all around the house when she is in a good mood, then she will go and do the opposite when she is having a jeckyl and hyde moment and nip me really hard, Joey my male is lovely but he will not sit on me for longer then ten seconds so I have not got the really good bond with him like I have with Edie, Skyla is so timid at the momemt I am praying I will have the same relationship with her as I have with Edie.xxxxxxxxx

Redgirl, your Budgies sound wonderful and you made me laugh because I can relate. I have 3 Budgies and Beaker is the smallest. He always runs from my hand unless he's hungry. Then he'll come and hop on the palm of my hand to eat. For some reason he used to hang his tail over the edge of my hand when he ate, (like the other Budgies) but now he just hops on the palm of my hand and points his tail feathers in the direction of my outstretched arm. I think he does that because he wants to face the other 2 Budgies so that they don't sneak up on him while he's eating. He doesn't like surprises! I really wish he hadn't have changed his positioning though, because now every time without fail, Beaker drops "Poo Poo" on my wrist! Gee, thanks Beaker. :S But on a brighter note, Beaker is the only one of my 3 Budgies that will actually give me kisses. Now why is it he'll give me kisses but then run from me if he's not eating? Go figure?
Niblet is the talker. He talks when the other 2 are sleeping. He just talks and talks and talks and no one is listening but me. He even talks while his own eyes are closed and the others are sleeping. Some times he goes on and on and on for so long that he just cracks me up. But if I'm stressed and not in the mood for noise and he's carrying on like that I finally say, "Would you please be quiet????" Then I laugh because he just keeps going!!!! :D Niblet is the only one that will hop on my finger to greet me, but then he quickly jumps right back off again. He'll do that but do you think he'd ever give in and give me a kiss? Not on your life!
Sunny Sonshine is my newest Budgie and she was so timid when I got her that I thought wow, she's probably going to tame quickly. She wouldn't let go of my finger the first couple of days. She was totally quiet and so sweet. Now she is the most energetic of the 3 and is constantly curious and jumping in and taking over. She's still really quiet but she is quickly becoming the most agressive. She loves to knock Beaker and Niblet over the edge of the cage when they are playing on top, and then when she hears the "THUD" of the other Budgies hitting the floor, she slowly tips her head to the side and peeks out of one eye to see if there are any survivors. I thought Sunny would probably be quick to give me kisses when I first got her, because she was sooooo mellow. Let me just say that about a day after bringing her home I tried to kiss her and she about bit my lips off with her beak. Boy did I learn fast that you don't test your new Budgie out with your lips!!!! I am laughing my head off right now because that incident is so fresh in my mind, that it seems like it just happened yesterday. I am happy to announce though, that I still have my lips. . .
Isn't it something how our Budgies can be so different? They'll go from one extreme to the other, just to keep us guessing? I don't think they want us to figure them out. It must be a control thing! They like controlling us.
Thanks for sharing your story, redgirl. It made my day.

Ohh wen Sunny throws the other budgies off are they okay. It sounds like they might get hurt. But it's stilll kinda funny! LOL:) :D :p

Hello Donna, yep you are right about that they do liek to control us lol. Skyla my new one is really timid, but she will let me stroke her like a dog and will sit in my hand and let me carry her around, but she wont stay on my finger, that bit I cant understand lol. She hates noise and flaps around her cage when she hears noise. i doubt i will ever be able to leave her alone with Edie and Joey as I think Edie will attack her and i just cant let them see eachother just yet and I think it will take a long time for them to get close, then with Joey been a male he may attack Skyla because he is close to Edie, I read that 2 females together can actualy fight till death and I never want to be put in that situation so for the time being Skyla is downstairs in my living room and other 2 are now in seperate cages next to eachother in a bedroom. i can honestly say though that having budgies has made my life and my childrens life better, I find them really relaxing and they destress me when I am feeling down in the dumps...my nicknames for them all is eddie beddie, joey boey, and skyla baby..that is what I always call them lol xxxxxx

Yes Navu,
It actually is pretty funny to see my Budgies falling overboard because of Sunny's expressions. And don't worry, my Budgies are always okay. They have an open area around the cage where they don't hit anything and they just land on the soft carpet. It seems to be happening more frequently though, during play time. Sunny must be trying to prove that she is in charge!
If she could speak in English, Sunny would be saying, "Sunny REIGNS." :D
After all, there are 2 cages in the room and the cage they keep getting thrown off of is Sunny's. Guess that just goes to show that you don't mess with the Queen of the castle. . .:laughing1:

LOL....I have 6 budgies, all with different personalities. One moment they all lovey-dovey with each other and the next they quawking and pushing each. To make things even worst, two of the males are maturing. One of them is bonded to the both female and they are his! Bert likes to nibble on my nose, Cymbal likes to cuddle and Alaska won't let anyone near him.
My budgies live in the loungeroom so they're right in the action zone, they can see what we're doing. They go hyper when they hear the vaccuum cleaner as that is their signal to try to out yell the sound. :p My gorgeous boy Blinks get all happy when he hears me running the kitchen tap and flies over for a bath under the water. Both my budgie love having a shower with me too and i can't imagine a shower without the sweet sound of their happy chirps. I definitely have two brave budgies, they are in love with the dogs and Ozzie in particular wants to be one, i'm certain. He loves the dog toys and once i even caught him having a bath in the dogs water dish (baaad i know, but it was a one off thing).
Hi Donna. I keep my budgies cages in our bird room. We have several different kinds of birds. Some of the birds are scared of the vacuum cleaner-- or different situations. What I do, as far as the shower thing goes, is to expose them to it step by step. I put their cage in there first, then I progress to letting them be on the perch, outside of the shower. When they get used to that, and start flying near the sound of the water, I open the shower door a little, and so on.. Some birds eventually come to enjoy showering with me, others never do-- but most learn to enjoy being in the bathroom while water is running. I enjoy it!! Good luck if you decide to try widening your babies' horizons!:)

For those who shower with their birds, how do you handle the soap and shampoo?
You give them somewhere to sit away for you while you wash your hair (e.g. a shower perch).
Wow, you seriously bring them in the shower?! That's awesome! I would love for Star to come in with me but that's never gonna happen, I don't think. She is very scared of being outside her cage. I often take my dog in the shower when my parents aren't home. She enjoys it sort of but I have to dry her off quickly.:p

Hi all, its so interesting reading all your stories about your budgies and their own little personalities. I have 4 budgies, jojo (f) and 3 new ones ozi (m), pud (f) and pepe(f) which I now call pickles. jojo we adopted from our granddaughter who really didn't take care of her very well. So we adopted her. She was so happy to have someone pay attention to her, she was all over us and made us members
of her flock. She love attention and love to ride in her blue bath tube around the house. We call her the sinker because when she flies so just goes down to the floor. She loves baths and getting sprayed. She squawks at us when we are not giving her attention. Our new 3 budgies are characters. Pud love to be spayed both ozi and pickles run away. Pud was the king budgie of their cage but slowly pickles took over. About 4 times a day pud lands on the bottom of the cage because pickles knocks her down there. Ozi (m) just stays out of the way of both of them. He does sing and bob his head all the time. I hope ozi and jojo will get along ok, as our plans are to move him in with jojo when my wife gets home.
I would think most of you have heard about the famous numa numa song on the internet, well I play it about four time a day with me singing(lol) along with it and my budgies sing their hearts out, they enjoy this song for some reason.
Our budgies cages are in the computer room upstairs which me and the wife spend most of our time. My 4 love the sound of the vacuum cleaner running and sing all the time its running.
The three new ones haven't been out of the cage to much and last Sat. I did what
I call the big clean, of the cages and surrounding areas. I clean cages everyday but Sat is the big clean. Anyway after I completed the big clean I called my wife and had taken one of the 3 tops off the new ones cage to see what would happen. All was fine until something spook them all 3 went in different direction. I got pud and ozi back in after a while but pickles disappeared somewhere. I torn the room apart with feathers and seeds everywhere, moved the cages and couldn't find her. I turned off the TV and heard a sound in behind the cabinet the cages set on , looked behind and their she was how she got back there I will never know. I had to tear apart the shelve, moved it and her foot was caught in the rug. She was going crazy, got herself free and flew to the cage door and in she went. Now I have to do the big clean again with seeds and feathers everywhere. So they won't be getting out again until wife gets home. I learned my lesson.
