But basically, my childhood companion was killed this March, Coco, the lab/collie mix was a birthday present for my birthday when I was a kid. I had wanted a furby that year. Instead I got a best friend. We grew up together, making mistakes and learning from them as we went. Without divulging too much into it, at one point that dog was all I had in the world ( literally )
That’s how I first got into Budgies, my Gran bought me Alfie to try and ‘cheer me up’ and it did work! However, no matter how much I love Alfie and the rest of my birds, it wasn’t the same.
I didn’t want to get another one...in fear of going through all that pain again. But lately, as my uni course progresses ( HNC Animal Care ) as the class is always talking about dogs etc I’ve really started to miss having a dog ( I never stopped missing Coco, but it was a different type of missing... )
So I decided to be brave and get another dog...he’ll never replace Coco and in no way is that what its about. But he’s a new chapter in my life, my new companion...and I love him already.
I adopted Jericho, the border collie, aged 8-12 months today.
I spent alot of time looking at the dogs ( and shedding a tear for a few of the poor souls ) but Noname ( they hadn’t named him! ) had my heart with his big sad eyes and nudging his ball hopefully towards the front of the kennel.
He’s still very puppish, loving to play and chase and of course investigate everything!
Currently he’s sleeping beside me, curled up in a contented little ball and looking like an angel...
