There is no real nutritional value in dairy for birds. Cheese is okay but be careful because it's high in fat.

The best diet is a well-balanced one, primarily of fresh, raw vegetables (spinach, mustard and collard greens, peas, carrots, sweet potato or yams), pellet, some fruit is okay (again, not a lot of nutritional value), legumes (pinto, white/red navy beans) and table foods such as pasta, lightly toasted whole wheat/grain bread. Some seed is okay but is high in fat. A seed only diet should be avoided.

Never, and I mean never, feed your birds chocolate, avocado, fruits with pits. They should not be allowed to "nibble" on poinsettas, Christmas trees and any other household plants.

Birds don't really care about how a door on their cage opens. As long as it is roomy enough for birdy and toys (make sure to leave plenty of room for a bird to fully expand its wings and flap them without hitting perches toys, etc.), has appropriate bar spacing (no more than 3/4 of an inch), has a grate at the bottom (to keep bird away from fecal matter) and is in good condition (no chipping paint, broken bars, rust) you should be good to go. Be sure to cover your bird at night to keep him/her out of drafts and have plenty of different size perches for good foot care. Don't bother with the sand perches. They don't help keep a birds nails trimmed and only cause foot problems.

Hope this helps!

Budgies can eat a variety of foods. I feed Star cheerios, apples, celery, carrots, cantalope, ect. You can look up what they can't eat because I don't know that.

I don't like the guillotine style doors as they could potentially trap your budgie or a budgie part (like a foot) if the door ever unlatched and you weren't careful. I prefer the ones that open on the side or open from the top on a hinge so that the door acts like a platform.
