I joined awhile ago but haven't really posted yet. So I thought this would be a good opertunity to post, I got a new budgie a few weeks ago. I went into work (I work at a petstore) and saw a budgie sitting in a cage at the front. So I asked my boss about him and apparently somebody had found him outside, and had tried to find his owner but nobody claimed him. I guess they couldn't keep him so they brought him to us. You could instantly tell something was wrong with the budgies foot, he was unable to "grasp" the perch, it was like his foot was paralized. He was also missing feathers on his back. I didn't take him home as I didn't think he would fair well living with my other budgies, so he stayed at the store for 2 weeks. During this time, his feathers grew back and his foot healed itself, he is able to use it perfectly fine now. He also was able to imitate lots of different noises, such as different wild bird chirps, and the ringing of a bell. So of course I had to bring him home. He gets on great with my 7 other birds, and is extremely tame! I didn't realise it until one day a few days after I brought him home. I was standing at the front of their cage and he came right up to me, and starting chatting away. So I opened the cage door, expecting him to scatter off like all of my other budgies do, but he flew right to my shoulder and started to chatter away in my ear. He is just so adorable and I'm glad I was able to give him a home. He has become really attached to me and will fly from anywhere in my room onto my shoulder! He doesn't like hands though so has to be picked up with a perch.
I just find it really sad that nobody was looking for him! If I lost a bird I would put posters up, contact the vets and every petstore, but apparently this person did nothing as the person who found him posted up posters, did adds in the newspapers and contacted the vet, but nobody claimed him. Oh well, he has found a good home now! Oh, and my coworker named him Lucky ;)

P.S. Will hopefully post pics soon!

He sounds wonderful and I am glad he found a GREAT home and nothing bad happened to him while he was out in the wild.

My mother has a blue crowned conure. One day my mom was letting her dogs out in the back yard and all of a sudden flapping right past her head went Beakli and out the back door. My mother was devistated. We put up signs everywhere, posted in the newspapers and everything. I just happened to be keeping an eye out on petfinder.org under lost and founds and 2 months later spotted someone had found a bird but they were located in the next state about 150 miles from us!! I contacted them anyway. Luckily, we had documentation of her leg band number and low and behold it was her!! My mother was so happy have her Beakli back!

So, what I am trying to say it Lucky could have come from another state or very far away.

Also, there are very cruel people out there that think parakeets are disposible and instead of trying to find them a good home if they no longer want to take care of them they just let them go into the wild.

I had adopted several of my parakeets from people no longer wanting to care for them. I heard from 2 people that they were "just going to let them go" . I couldn't believe it! The birds were tame and everything. People just find them disposible. So sad!

Well, Kudos to you for giving Lucky a good loving home!:D

Keep us posted on how Lucky is doing!:budgie:

THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR GREAT STORY!!

Hello MegTheBudgie,

First of all I would like to thank you for sharing your story with us. It was so wonderful to hear how "Lucky" came into your life. And what a story it was!!! That just goes to show what a little loving care can do for a Budgie. It sounds as though Lucky was meant to be yours. And what a joy to have a Budgie that just flies to your shoulder and chirps in your ear. It's funny how a Budgie may not like a finger to perch on or a hand to pick him up, yet he loves being on your shoulder and talks freely to you. You have something special that most Budgie owners don't. Some of us try so hard to tame our little guys and then there are people like you who don't even have to try. :S Oh to be in your shoes, ha! :D

Working at a Pet Store sounds very fun and rewarding. Keep up the good work and don't hesitate to post again. It was a joy to hear from you.

Kisses,

Your story was so awesome and almost unbelievable! Who would ever think that a person could track down a lost Conure 2 months after it was lost, and then find it in another town 150 miles away? What a miracle that was! :D I bet your Mother was heart-broken when she first lost Beakli. And to think that he's now living back in her home. That's all the more reason why we shouldn't remove those leg bands. I know that people question whether they should remove them, but this is a great example of why they shouldn't. If it weren't for the band, no one could have proved that Beakli belonged to your Mother. What an encouragement your story has been. Maybe it will give others hope in knowing that lost pets don't always remain lost. :happy4:

Have a great day, Kisses!

Hi Donna,

I know, I could barely believe it either when it was happening! But it is very, very true! It was in the summer so that is how we assumed she survived the nights. The lady had found her in her back yard by her garage 3 weeks after she was originally missing. She took her in and was taking care of her. She said she had posted on petfinder in July originally and then again in August. I only saw her post in August. My mother was extremely excited and thankful to have her Beakli back!

Miracles can happen! And THANK GOD it did!:o
