my budgie can'f fly for a long time
she flies around for like 5 sec and then ,if she can't find any place to sit on she kinda falls to the floor.
also her tail is bobbing quite a lot when she is just sitting in her cage.
could it be a sign of a respiratory problem?

Hello 2Perfect,
I am really sorry to hear about the problem that your Budgie is having. How long have you had your Budgie and is this something that has just been happening all of a sudden? Was he able to fly for longer periods of time, before now?
My Budgies have had their wings clipped and so they can just fly a short distance. I would say it's more of a "FLUTTER" than flying. They fall to the ground also, because of the clipped wings. If you just bought your Budgie, maybe the wings are clipped and you weren't aware of it and that's why it can't fly like birds who have all of their wings.
If your bird does NOT have it's wings clipped, I would probably be concerned. You said the tail was bobbing so that is usally a sign that there is a problem. An Avian Vet is probably the only one that can help you with this, unless someone else on this forum is familiar with this problem. This could very well be a respiratory problem and if that's the case, you could probably still get help if you seek it in time and don't wait.
Sorry I can't help you more. . .:(
Please keep us informed and let us know how things are progressing.
I also wanted to say, WELCOME to the forum and thank you for posting your concern.

Hello Donna,
Thank you for ur reply and welcoming me to the forum.
My budgie is18 months old now and I got her when she was 8 weeks old.
I’ve been watching her all day today and she seems perfectly happy and healthy.
Now that I thought about it it seems that this “falling to the floor” only happens when someone else is around her ,so maybe she just gets too nervous and scared.
Or could it be that she’s not used to flying for a long time. When I let her out of her cage she usually just sits on top of it admiring her reflection in the mirror ))
I’m gonna take her to the vet the first chance I get.
I appreciate ur concern.

Tail bobbing is certainly a sign of something wrong as that is not normal budgie behaviour. It could be a respiratory problem, which is the most likely scenario. It could also be a problem with the preen gland or internal pelvic area. Good on you for bringing your sweety to a vet though. It's definitely a good idea. When in doubt, it's a good idea to error on the side of caution.
Welcome to the forum by the way! I'm glad you took the time to join and post about your sweety! :p And hey, I just noticed you are from Toronto! I live in Ottawa and have visited Toronto. In fact, I was there last weekend for a taekwondo tournament!
