My adopted budgie, approx. 5 years recently has had trouble breathing. Her tail constantly bobs up and down and she sits at an almost horizontal angle. Other than that, she seems normal. She still flies around her cage and twitters loudly. Should I consider taking her to a vet?

Hello and Welcome to the forum. I don't mean to "POUNCE" on you, but I just happened to be online myself and saw that you had joined, so I decided to say "Hello."
I am very sorry to hear of the problems with your Budgie. I am no expert by any means in regards to the health of your Budgie but if he/she is having trouble breathing and has the tail bobbing and is not standing properly, I would definitely recommend seeing a vet. None of these signs sound good. Just the fact that your Budgie does not appear to be breathing right is enough of a concern.
I have heard that Avian vet bills can be quite costly, but you will have to make the final decision, and do what you feel is right. Maybe someone else on the forum can give you a more definite answer if they've experienced this before, because I haven't. How long has this been going on and how long have you had your Budgie?
I hope you get some answers soon. Please keep us informed.

I'm not yet experienced in birds, but keep in mind that while vet visits can be costly, phone calls are free! If you're concerned enough about your budgie to post asking for thoughts, it may be time for a call to the vet.
Oxygen is a pretty important thing in day to day life. I would consider apparent breathing issues to be at the top of the list! :)
Good thoughts on the way for your girl.

Please do!
Don't buy trouble just yet though. She could be at this very moment cackling on her high perch about this great show she's putting on and how many viens are popping out on mom's forehead THIS time!

Hi everyone,
The vet could not diagnose any sickness for my budgie, he only recommended rest and to feed my budgie fresh greens everyday, which I regret to say i have been forgetting to! :o
My budgie also developed a small lump on her lower back over the last few days and has obvious trouble excreting waste, but the droppings show that nothing is wrong with her. The vet did an x-ray but nothing peculiar showed up, maybe a possible pregnancy? :S
Thanks to everyone who replied. I hope to update again. :D

When you say she developed a small lump on her back, do you mean her preen gland? Or are you referring to her vent (i.e. where she poops)?
