I bought two young budgies today... one is white and grey with a little bit of blue around the rump. The other is mostly yellow with some green. I'll try to get pictures when they've settled down a bit. They're a bit stressed right now what with the car ride and transition into their new cage. :)
I have no idea what I'll name them yet, and will probably hold off for a bit anyway until I figure out what genders they are. I'm guessing the white/grey is female, as she latched onto my finger as I was trying to put her into her new cage from the petstore box. I had to shake her off, and a huge bruise has already popped up. Ouch! The yellow/green is more laid back and has not nipped at me yet... but I will wait a few days before making any personality judgements.
Both have bars all the way down to their beaks and fully dark eyes. Their ceres are both a light blue color at the moment, but they're young, so not sure what they'll be in time!
Can't wait to start training and socializing with them! And of course talking with you all.

Hello Jenje,
I just wanted to say "Hello" and WELCOME to the forum.
Wow, it sounds like you have a neat addition to your household. 2 Budgies at the same time. . . :D
From what I just read, you sound very knowledgeable about Budgies. Have you been a Budgie owner in the past or are you just naturally smart? Hehe!
You are correct about waiting to decide their personalities. It took a good couple of weeks before my Budgies started to warm up and chirp. They are so quiet those first few days aren't they? And then, WATCH OUT!!!! :laughing1:
I waited to name my 3 Budgies too, but even now I am not definite on their sex. I think I have 2 males and a female, but finally decided to name them because I felt like I was cheating them by not giving them names. Every one is different on that so I can understand you wanting to wait. I ended up choosing names that didn't matter which sex they are. My Budgies are named, "Niblet, Beaker, And Sunny Sonshine." I know that a lot of people choose names and then end up changing them when they find out that they are not the gender they thought they were. And then there are those who just keep the name the same, despite the fact that they don't match the sex of the bird. . . And that's okay, too.
I am sure that many will be looking forward to hearing more from you and seeing photos of your little guys, when things settle down. It sounds as though you yourself could give us a few tips and pointers on how to care for a Budgie. :)
Have a great day!

Aaw, thanks so much for the reply!
I've had one budgie in the past, back when I was nine or ten... it was one of those situations where he stayed at my dad's house as a part-time pet. Not a great situation for the bird (kid knows nothing, parent knows nothing) and I wound up accidently letting him out with a window open. :(
No birds since then... although I did fall in love with an indian ringneck parakeet at a petstore a few years ago. I'm more of a parrot girl at heart but who can resist budgies? :D I'm youngish and living on my own now for the first time (other than my very pregnant poodle)... the house is just too quiet. I thought a little chirping might cheer the place up a bit and did a quick run through google to get a better idea of what I was getting myself into before I went and bought them.
My kids have chirped once or twice each since they got home, but only when they found out that their newly clipped wings presented a new obstacle... figuring out how to get to the perches! I do have a ladder up to one perch for them but they seem to be able to get from one (lowish) perch to the next through the staggered height they're at... almost like a stair step if you've got some depth perception. They are both snoozing on the topmost perch now, and I've wrapped the top of the cage in a bit of fabric to give them some extra darkness.
They seem comfortable with each other for the moment and are sleeping close together. Here's hoping it's a good sign and they'll be buddies! Of course I guess they could be clinging to one another due to stress. I was/am concerned about having possibly gotten two females because I've read that most do nothing but sit at opposite ends of the cage and glare at each other all day.
I have a LOT ahead of me to learn! It should be a great journey.
Sorry for the long winded post! I'm pretty excited about having them. They're incredibly smart. Watching them figure out the step pattern on the perches was brilliant. They do just what I would do... sit and whine just to see if someone will help, then figure it out for themselves! (The chirping started when they got frustrated with the jumping straight up and down thing.)

Hey Jenje,
Don't worry about the long-winded-ness! I think I have everyone beat with that. You may run a close 2nd, but time will tell. :D
I am excited for you because I know that same excitement with having my own Budgies. There is always something new to learn about these little guys and they always surprise you with new things they've learned, themselves. Each day is a blast with a Budgie!
Wow, so you're out on your own now, huh? (If you can call being with a very pregnant doggie and two Budgies, being out on your own.) Hehehe! Just kidding. I know what you mean.
You were very wise to check out information on owning a Budgie before you bought yours. Most people dive into it, thinking that Budgies are "cute" and then they don't realize that having a birdie entails more than just being "cute." And many others think that keeping seed and water in a cage is the answer to good Budgie care. I totally understand what you mean about being a kid and not knowing how to care for a Budgie. And then the parent is not knowledgeable either, and so the bird ends up being neglected. I appreciate people who do their homework first, because otherwise the pets usually end up suffering, due to an owner that neglects their needs.
I better quit "ranting" and posting for now or people will begin to talk and accuse me of long-winded-ness, ha! Um, I guess it's too late for that! :hammer:
Have a great day. :)
