I had a suprise last night it happened at 8.45pm.

Sky decided to come out of his cage to excise his wings

It was getting dark too and I was just about to close the curtains and was gonna cover him slightly for it was his bed time.

So I had to put the lights on so he could see where he was going. After awhile I put him back in his cage.

It this unsual for birds coming out to excise at night?

He just wanted to get in the last flight for the evening. Mine are out until 9pm or 9:30pm and than we put them in their cages. With 14 budgies there is always a last flight before they go in!

How cute!! My aruba plays in his cage at night before I cover him for the night. He is not yet allowed out of his cage yet, I just got him last week and I am working on taming him before I let him out.

Yellow will fly at night or in almost dark - We will have her out with us in the bedroom sometimes before we put her to bed for like a 1/2 hour while we watch TV. I think she just has everything memorized though, I don't think she can really see where she's going. Because one night I didn't have her cage in the bedroom, just her, and she decided to go for a fly. She landed where her cage should have been and went right to the floor. It was funny only because she didn't get hurt. But since then I make sure that at night everything is where it should be incase she decides to go for a night time run around the room:)

It could be dangerous for them to fly around at night. I always have a hard time getting mine back in the cage so I have to close them up early when they go in to eat.
I've had a couple of experiences with them not going in at night. They'll get spooked real easy. They'll take off and can really hurt themselves.
So I don't think it's unusual. Just dangerous.

I researched this a bit. They like a final flight as it prepares them for "rest" time. That's when they go to sleep and prepare for the upcoming day. :)

Yeah it is dangerous for the most part, I think just using judgment though is fine.
I mean if every night she does the same exact thing, I would bet it's fine. But just flying around when it's dark randomly if they don't do it all the time would be wicked dangerous I'm sure.

Yellow is always in her cage and covered up when the lights go completely out. She's only out at night with light from the TV on, but I still think she just knows where stuff is, I'm sure she can't see well.

It's about as bad as me going through my apartment when all the lights are off. If something isn't where it should be I'll trip and get nasty bruises.
