my little budgie likes to climb over to her food dish and push it onto the ground, she wedges her head between the bars of the cage and her food dish and pushes, then her food spills all over the ground. she has been doing it more often now. how do i stop this?
i think she does it becuase she is bored are there any toys that your budgies love?

also i have a little off topic question, how much are vet bills? i know they are expensive but how expense?

Hi ^^
I'm looking for the same answer... lately Kiki's been throwing her food all over the floor too..

Hmm my Kiki loves swings, the balls attached to each other that hang from the cage and her hoops :) (look at the picture i attahced to see what it is :))

It depends where you live. My vet charges $50 for a budgie but there are much cheaper vets out there. Some charge $30 some charge $40 it just depends. Of course if you do tests and if your bird is sick then of course it'll have to be more expensive... I just payed $302 because my kiki was sick and he did a couple of tests and gave me anti biotics to give her. So yes it depends on the vet and whether your bird is sick or not and if you do any tests.

The burying-food behavior sounds like a female budgie :) This is a behavior that normally shown in females, especially when they are starting or in breeding condition. She may just be trying to find a suitable nest. This doesn't necessarily mean she will breed or lay eggs though :)

I'm sure the experienced budgie breeders will put a bit more insight on this :)

vet's vary by state, mine is 36 bucks per bird for just a physical exam ( more or less the doctor looks over the bird and that's basically it) any tests would be extra and all test vary from vet to vet, state to state

my birds love bells, a few beads on a string, and a cat ball filled with pieces of millet

my birds don't do what yours is doing

they used to get into the food dish (boys included) and kick out the food while they "took a bath" in the food

so I got deeper dishes, they were still able to lay in the food while they ate it but they can't kick the food out any more because they can't get the food up and over the lip of the deeper dishes.

You want to hope they never learn the trick of picking up a mouthful of something or other and moving it to another place. :( Midge moved a full water dish into her food dish - one beakful at a time. She also spent quite a while picking up every last bit of poop she could find and putting it into the water dish. Made a heck of a mess. She is now restricted to a tube waterer.
