Today I moved my budgie's cage into the computer room which I spend most of my time in. I figured the bonding process would work much better since I'll get to interact with my little Chio while I do all the stuff on my computer. Anyways I heard so much about how playing music, singing, and dancing etc help to get your bird to take an interest in you and bond. So I decided to give music a try. At first I just played music, then I started bobbing my head along with it. At first my budgie wasn't sure what to think of it all and he just sat there.

But after a few songs he seemed to start taking an interest and looked like he was watching me. And then during a slower song he randomly started bobbing his head even though it didn't quite go with the music but it would have if he did with the other songs. I was happy to see a positive response. And I tried encouraging him to do it more. He seems to like doing it on his own time.

After I quit playing music, I started watching TV, and I have this workout ball I like to sit on and bounce while doing activities like watching TV. My budgie watched me move around and bounce on it. Then he started head bobbing again when I would take breaks from bouncing. I tried encouraging him to do it more and I bounced back and forth on my ball and he moved back and forth on his perch bobbing his head. I think he's taking an interest in me.:D

What do you guys think of this? Do any of you guys have similar experiences?

It sounds like your budgie is having a good time. Head bobbing is a good sign, whereas tail bobbing (which is sometimes coupled with heavy breathing and/or clicking with each breath) is not.

Budgies head bob when they are happy and excited. Sometimes in their excitement, they will even regurgitate seed in front of or on a favourite object or person while they head bob. Has your budgie done that yet?

My male budgies have been the ones who typically head bob, although Gracie (my female) has been known to also do it too. (Maybe she learned it from the boys?)

Your little guy sounds like a cutie! He's definitely taking interest in you and his environment, which is great! :D

Keep up the great work :)

Umm, no this is the first time I ever interacted with my budgie and gotten a sincere response. I bought him in June this year, and since I've had him in my bedroom he hasn't had much time with me so I moved him in the room that I spend more time in to get him bonded better. He hasn't ever regurgitated as far as I know. This is the first time I've ever seen him do this. :D It's exciting.

I have another thing to add. Whenever I play music he starts, umm..., cleaning his feathers, and scratching. Does this mean he's excited? Because when I'm not playing music he just sits there and watches. And no it's not feather plucking. :confused2:

he is preening himself and they do it several times a day, it is a flock activity (i learned this on TB) so if he is doing it in front of you he is comfortable - i guess and you are part of his flock
