I'm not exactly sure of what you are talking about, but I would not use it. Hermit crabs go through molting and need soft substrate to bury under and molt out their shell.

I use to use coconut fiber, but Calci-sand is also popular as substrate. :)

Most coconut fiber and Calci-sand only costs about $7 if you get the smaller bag. You can also get the compressed coconut fiber for about $3-$4 :) (You may need to buy two of those, depending on the size of your habitat)

Congrats on your hermit crab! :) I used to have a couple, I put sand in the bottom of their cage. We just got sand from Home Depot or one of those places and baked it in the oven.

Aww hermit crabs are adorable little critters!

I really want to bring home another hermit crab one day. I haven't had any since my last one passed away a few years ago. I love the Strawberries, they're my favorite :)

I also love the Ecuadorian. I had a gigantic Ecuadorian and he lived in a tiny little shell! No matter how many shells I offered to him, he would not move! He would always curl in, but not really, as his shell only covers his tail, so he would just hide behind his arms :o
