A few minutes ago Billy sort of sat on the very top of Lily's tail and she let him. There was a lot of flapping/chirping.

Is that mating?

Have they mated?

If anyone knows anything then please let me know!

I think if they have I will have some babies soon, as they are regurgitating, eating, looking in the nestbox, cleaning eachother, eating mineral block & cuttle bone more than ever!

Are they thinking of breeding?

The behaviours you are describing do make it sound like they have mated. Did Lily have her tail up in the air when Billy was "sitting" on her?

If they did in fact mate, whether or not any eggs will be produced, well, that is another question! Only time will tell. However, all things point to yes; it sounds like they have mated!

Her tail was up in the air! The highest I've ever seen it up! Wow, I'm so amazed!

In the book im reading Training your parakeet by darlene campbell
It has a section on breeding. SO i thought i would throw some info i read.make sure they have addition to green foods. Parakeets only breed when there is an abundence of green food available. Copulation between the male and the felame will continue daily until the first egg is laid.
Two or three days before the egg is laid the female may echibit signs of pregnancy. near the underside of her tail or her vent a lump will appear the male will continue his love making and the act of copulation will take longer but the female is uninterested, she spends much of her time in the box arranging the material for her eggs she will appear somewhat bloated and ruffels herself regularly. on the days the eggs are laid both female and male remain in the box togehter the male and female also take turns siting on the egg, the male will sit during daylight hours and female during night hourse but the male will be near the nest to give his mate protection..

When i read more i will let you know..:)

How old is Lilly I don't let mine breed until they are at least 14mths old, and the first clutch of eggs can be infertile which is not to say the male is infertile.
I hope you get plenty of babies but remember don't let the female bird continually breed as she can become very week and you could lose her and then there are lots of tears.
