The top 3 most aggressive dog breeds
http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/features/mutts/blog/2008/07/the_most_aggressive_dog_breeds.html

I found this on craigslist and I find it so funny. Especially being the owner of 2 Jack Russells. But then again if my husband jokingly slaps my leg or even his own leg Lucy will go nuts and attack him. It's funny to watch. She never gets him hard it's just more noise and movement.

Glad to see the "norm" wasnt there, Pits, rots, dobies etc.

Majority of the reason little dogs are "aggressive" is because the owners treat them like little kids, dress them up , (really do they think the dog likes that crap?) and the dog is little so it does no wrong in the owners eyes, and they make it that way!

If you ever watched It's Me or The dog - on Animal Planet - i'd say 85% of the dogs she trains are small aggressive dogs, and she tells the owners straight up They made the dog that way!

Oh I hate it when people think pits are so bad. They can be the most loving dogs. It all has to do with ownership.

I have a few pure breds I love, pits bieng one, but i'm still a fan of my mutts as well, but I've been attacked by more mutts then I have pure breds (not my own dogs though) I only had one that went nuts - But I think it had something to do with her past.

but I didn't know she had pups - I fed and watered her twice a day, played with her and didn't know it until i went up one day and the pups were walking around outside her box - I was shocked to say the least

then we had 2 other dogs, down the yard a bit that had pups, and my kids were playing with the puppies, and was walking around - Normal thing for them - they liked to put the puppies in thier little red wagon and give them a ride around the yard - No harm - I was sitting on the porch and my daughter came running around the corner screaming and crying that Baby (the "mutt" part chow/ bassett and I don't know what else) killed one of the other dogs pups

My son was holding it, and got too close to Baby - I don't know if baby Jumped up on him and he dropped the pup and that's how she got it or if she ripped it out of his arms - Either way she killed this pup in front of my kids my son was 2

I called their dad who was supposed to take the dog when he left 3 months before - He kept coming up with excuses of why he couldn't take his dog. So I wrote him out a bill for housing/ feeding the dog, And gave the dog to a family who lived on a Farm because she loved to Run - but after that I just couldn't trust her any more

she was known to attack people who she knew very well - if i was home alone, and she was out side she's tried to attack my dad every time and my dad came to my house every day for his morning coffee and always brought dog treats for her and the other dog I had

But she lived out her life on a farm with lots of places to run and play with other dogs. I just couldn't risk it bieng my kid the next time she lost her mind.

WOW who ever said small dogs can't be trusted is an idiot.. IM SORRY its true!
Small dogs are the way they are is because they are so small, the world is so big to them and they are afraid of it. Ever look at a small dog like a chihuahua? when ever they start to show aggression they shiver! not because they are cold its because there scared. When we are scared of someone or something sometimes we want to fight back just like what the are doing

From experience I agree that the dachshund and chihuahua be on top! My grandma had a dachshund and so did my horse trainer and they are a one person dog and will bite anyone else! Most of the chihuahuas I have met are the same...very nippy!

I have known a couple pits and rots and pinchers and shepards and never been growled at or bit by them.

Another aggressive breed is the blue healer (I have know several that are nippy, but also some that are territorial)! Another territorial breed is the Dalmation...why do you think they sit on the fire truck...to protect it!

Small dog syndrome. We had a German Shepherd and a Miniature Fox Terrier. Everyone who came to the place would keep their eye on the Shepherd and the Foxy would sneek underneath and nip their ankles. We called the German Shepherd King but he was always known as Boofy short for Boofhead. A big lovable dope.

I'm always shocked when I see Chow Chows on the list of dogs to "beware" of. My best friend's mother used to breed Chow Chows many years ago, and every single one of them was just a big loveable dork -- all loved people, no aggressive tendencies at all. I didn't even know they were considered "threatening" until very recently.

i have to agree that little dogs are very agressive.
i have 2 yorkies,2 maltese, and 1 labrador and they're all insane but the yorkies and malties will bite over nothing. they get confused and if someone turns the vaccumm on they will bite the nearest person. or if 2 of us are fighting they'll bite the innocent one-like if my brother starts attacking me if i say something that hurts his sensistive little feelings- they'll start biting my feet... when my brother is the one being violent.

they even attack each other :P
like if they see a dog outside Riley will start jumping on Teddy biting him.

Honestly, i think if a robber broke in they would start attacking US inside of the robber.

I agree with little dogs being aggressive.
I honestly have encountered way more vicious little dogs then big dogs. Also to be honest a lot of the owner, NOT ALL, but a lot of them think it's ok because they are small can't do any harm. A couple weeks ago my friend and i were at the beach and little dog came up to us and started barking at us non stop and then the owner came over came over and basically laughed it off and ranted about how cute the dog was and then the the dog away. I HATE yappy dogs. They are a pain in the ass. I used to not mind them until my next door neighbor got a little Shih Tzu that barks non stop! I personally prefer big dogs. I used to have two big dogs, now only one, and they were both great, and Taz still is. He can be a little aggressive to other dogs because he had bad accident with another dog attacking him when he was a pup and now hes afraid of alot of dogs, or takes a long time to warm up to them. We keep him on leash at all times though, and he is great with people and kids, it's just other dogs that he can be not so good with. It takes him a long time to warm up. But other than that hes perfect! Rosie, my chocolate lab that was put down last February was great too, a typical lab, and all around loving dog. Anyway that's my opinion. BUT i will admit, i really really do like Yorkshire terriers and pugs.

I have to say my little Jack Russell bitches aren't that bad. Lucy the mother dog is worse then Macey the daughter. But worse then them is my husbands bird dog.

A dog is only agressive when the owner makes them that way. Its from their own experiences. I have 2 german shepherds and my dads friend has a rottweiler. Never once have they hurt a soul. My nan has a jack russel and he is such an adorable little mite. I also watch its me or the dog. Victoria Steelwell is just the greatest(next to jan fennel of course)

My grandma has had rotts all my life. Probably longer. Our most notable one was Patches. Patches lived to be real old and was my grandma's BFF. ;) Well the only time Patches ever snapped at me, I was messing with her food dish while she was eating, which is understandable because just yesterday Cory took my Poptart and I hit him. lol

But Darlene's Yorkies, and Gramma's pugs are ALWAYS biting me. Makes me wanna kick them. I would never do it but boy howdy I sure feel like it sometimes.

I'm a vet tech. I work in the vet's office everyday. I never go into a room with a dachshund with out a muzzle in my pocket. 8 out of 10 will bite. That's my experience though. I have a 4 pound Miniature Pincher, she is the Devil. She will bite if she does not know you. It doesn't matter what your doing. She attacks my poor pit bull and hangs from her lips. Out of all 8 of my dogs, Ranging from 4 pounds to 145 pounds, my smallest is the only aggressive one.

That's the most irresponsible excuse that is always tried. It does not matter what size your dog is, if it has an aggression problem, it should be acknowledged, not excused away!!!!!

I have to say my brother in law's lil dachshund is the most aggressive of the family. When we all get together its a yellow lab, great dane/boxer mix, the dachshund & my pitt/boxer & she rules the roost the spoiled lil thing. It seems funny to watch at first, her chasing around all these big guys and getting her, but gets old.

I will admit that Lucy my jack does have a slight agression problem.:o But it's mainly brought on by my husband messing with her and when Dave my DH's dog is around she goes after him sometimes too. Oh and when they had to be boarded at the vets in July I actually had to go back and get them out of the little kennel thing because they weren't being nice girls to the vet tech. But when it comes to kids there's not a mean bone in their body and for adults you really have to be doing something wrong for Lucy to get mad at you. Like pretending to hit me. She doesn't like that. She'll lay into you. I think it's almost safer to say she's protective not aggressive.

thats soooo true... treat a dog with love & respect, and you'll get it back 10 fold!

One of the girls that works for me has had many over her life, they were the best!

Akita's (my dog) always have such a bad rap... Max is not at all agressive, especially in his youth

Little dogs sure do have the attitude of a pit bull with strangers LOL all bark, no bite (hopefully LOL)

i have known a lot more tiny dogs to be aggressive than large dogs... that said, about pitties and such, if almost any other dog has a bad moment, someone may get bitten, but often will not be maimed for life or killed, If a pit bull terrier or a Rottweiler for example has a bad moment, often someone is maimed or killed, and that has now created the opinion that these breeds are 'bad'
i firmly believe it isnt bad animals for the most part, its bad owners, obviously some breeds have tendencies to act in certain ways, but this is not set in stone, i too often see people stereotyping dog breeds as just 'bad'
years of humans shaping their dogs to do what WE want, has resulted in some 'undesirable' traits being bred thoroughly into a few breeds... this should not stop an informed and responsible person choosing the right breed for themselves... one mans problem dog, can be another's angel!...

Red healers or Australian cattle dogs are bred to round things up by nipping at their heals (hence 'healer')...

Dachshunds and other small terriers were bred to dig into rabbit warrens and rat nests etc and chase them out snarling and snapping...

Rhodesian Ridgebacks were bred to hunt lions!

almost every dog has an embedded 'problem' in its breeding through human choice the ones that were not bred to hunt guard or attack, were usually bred for aesthetics, completely overlooking the mental nature (and sometimes health benefits) of the dogs bred a great deal of the time resulting in aggressive or mentally unsound dogs...

again, its choosing the right breed (and individual personality) for YOU that is the most important, not just steering away (or towards) the 'dangerous' breeds just because they have been labelled as such ;) and there is a dog breed to suit almost every lifestyle and person!

just my opinion

I hate it when people tell me that pit bulls are mean. I aways tell them two things. 1: What breed? there are over 20 breeds of pit bull. 2: What about Great Danes? They were bred to kill people and APBTs were bred not to bite a person under any circumstance and if they did they were killed.

I had a dachshund named Sadie since she was five weeks old. She was horrible with children. When my neices and nephews came over I had to either gate her in a back room or sit with a rolled up magazine and pop her butt every time she would growl or lunge at the kids.

When my daughter was born she seemed to do okay with her. I just always kept a close eye on them together. My daughter just learned to crawl and I saw Sadie run to her and bite her forehead for no reason. I never let me daughter pull her hair or bother her in any way. I had to rehome her. I didn't want her to attack my daughter or make her live outside. She was an inside dog her entire life. I still miss little Sadie. I had her over five years. :(
