Hello everyone,

I am looking forward to joining in, I have two budgies, one called Joey and the other one is called Lulu. Joey was rescued from a street market from a guy selling plants, it was a windy cold day and I felt sorry for it, the cage was on the floor amoung the plants. I bought it and realised that it was a sick bird, it had diarrhoea and was sitting in the bottom of the cage. I gave it cold tea mixed with a small amount of sugar, (read it on the internet from a breeder) it actually worked, it took three weeks to get him well, although he has recovered I still think he may be deformed. He sits horizontally on his perch not upright. Doesent chirp much, so yesterday I went and bought a new budgie from a pet shop, called Lulu. She is very bossy and three times the size of Joey. I really no nothing about budgies, so any advice I would be very grateful.

Cheers, rioja_pauline

Don't put Lulu in with Joey!

She will have to be quarentined first for 30-40 days!

If Joey has anything wrong with him Lulu will get it to.

I'm glad you joined and I hope you like it here.

If I were you, I would see an avian vet and see what they would say about him.

Welcome to the forum rioja_pauline! Glad you joined us. I think you'll really like it here. (Of course, I don't know who DOESN'T like it here!).

Your budgies have really cute names! I will certainly be interesting to hear how Joey reacts to the new budgie. Have you quarantined the newbie budgie? (It's a good idea to do that so if your new budgie is ill, she won't pass on an illness to Joey). Maybe he'll start singing to Lulu!

Anyway, welcome once again and I encourage you to take a look at the various posts in Talk Budgies. There are a lot of great tips that I am sure you'll find helpful!

Thank you for the advice, I do have another cage, so I will separate them.
Thank you for your welcome.

I will be sure to do that, Lulu is such a noisy bird she chips loudly all day. Poor Joey seems even more nervous. Oh by the way Joey is blue and Lulu is completely yellow.

Hi Billy & Lilly, I will take some pictures today, and post them later. I will take them together before I put them into separate cages so you can see the difference between them.

As told they must be quarantined, also everytime you handle Joey make sure you wash your hands thoroughly before handling Lulu because if he does have any disease it can be transferred to Lulu then you will have two sick birds.
It sounds like Joey was maltreated that is why he is hunched over and cowering down but with love and a good home he should survive.
If you have an avain vet around where you live take Joey and Lulu just to make sure all is okay
Good Luck they sound like they will have a happy home and a good mum to look after them

Welcome! Thanks for saving Joey, I think you should take him to an avian vet though, to be on the safe side.

Hello,
I have eventually posted my pictures of Joey and Lulu and now I also have Pumpkin, I really enjoy these sweet little birds, I am having a little difficulty in taming them, Pumpkin will sit on my finger but Joey is always on red alert which sets of Lulu, I have not clipped there wings yet, I am really scared to do it, and vets are in short supply here. I have Pumpkin in a seperate cage and really I am trying each day to tame him.
Joey says hello Joey all the time, in fact he chirps away all day, Lulu and Pumpkin only do a solitary chirp. I would love to breed from Joey and Lulu, at what age will they start mating?
I am going to enter Pumpkin for BOTM Comp. oh well you never know!!!!
The competition will be very hard because from all the budgie pictures on the site there are some real beauties. Best of luck everyone who enters.
Cheers from a still sunny Spain.
Rioja-Pauline.

Hi Roija Pauline,

Welcome to the group and thank you so much for giving poor Joey a home. It will be interesting to hear about his progress. I hope that he will come to know that he is in a safe home and will calm down. It takes time and patience.

Dotty :)
