Good morning,
You all might remember my handicapped Mattimeo who is doing quite well - his leg will never be normal, but he has worked out a nice niche for himself in my flock. He is the most gentle of all my keets.
Two more parakeets have joined my flock! Both are in quarantine now, of course. One is a half-English budgie (Rowan) who looks like a short Peregrin falcon. He's kinda sorta, well, huge compared to everyone else. Interstingly enough, he has long feathers around his vent, so his plop caked on a tad. I just gave him a warm bath and massaged that area clean - he appears much happier not to have that mess clinging to him.
The other, Snow, is a runner parakeet (runner meaning no-flying?). She has an overgrown beak that continously overgrows so I'm now prepared to clip it whenever needed. She's an albino with quite a unique sheen on her back - it's the sheerest, most luminous light blue I've ever seen (kinda like she was dusted over with mother-of-pearl). You can't notice that unless the sunlight is on her, as most of her wing/tail feathers are tattered.
I'll post pictures soon. You know, one thing this brought home to me....handicapped parakeets are just as wonderful as 'normal' parakeets. What might seem to be an unsightly flaw to a person is simple life as normal for a birdie...I'm quite happy they're all in my life.
Enjoy,
Barbara
