OK...The last few days my female skye has been acting weird...First, last night she was pacing pacing and more pacing....going absolutely crazy about nothing...Going into the nest, coming back out then going back in again and again...didn't make much sense...This morning I found a huge poop on the bottom of the cage and her vent was wet....And she can't fit into the water dish, it's too small...Someone told me it might be a good sign she's pregnant...Could it be? :D
Thanks
Alora

huge poops are a sure sign that an egg is on the way, not sure how long after they start this they lay eggs but i dont think it will be far away at all congrats!

It is sounding like she will lay soon. With my budgie Skyla, shes lays eggs within a day or two of her poops getting huge.

Skye is still pacing and going crazy...been in and out of the nestbox since I got home from school...
Alora
Yes Aries Is a really cool name...I tihnk it kind of makes sense because Aries was the god of sun and our birds are like blue with a yellow face like the sun...it's pretty neat! :D

Skye is sleeping a bit more and chewing on her cuttlebone LOTS...Her bum/tail is twitching now...Looks like it's pulsing almost...interesting...Looks like she's getting a bit swollen as well so...could be anytime! :D

No new activity coming from Skye...Shes not pacing anymore, she isn't swollen around the bum area and her tail isn't twitching much anymore...Maybe she's hidden the egg somewhere around the cage:D

One of the early signs of being egg bound is tail bobbing.....that can progress to small or non-existent droppings (because the cloaca gets blocked) and laboured breathing (from all the effort of trying to push the egg out).....eventually it can lead to death as some of members here are all too familiar with...:(

That would suck so much! :( I hope that doesn't happen to Skye :budge:
It's been like 3-4 days since she started making bigger poops...How long does it usually take your guys' birds to lay after the big poops are noticed?

i cant really answer that one, with my hens, as soon as the box is given to them, they are straight in it and dont come out except to eat, drink, poo, strech wings, and of course mate!

Should you be able to feel the egg inside the hen still? Because I felt around Skye's vent area and felt something somewhat hard but it seemed to be too small for an egg...I think it might've just been a bone.thanks!

It is possible to feel an egg, but you would have to palpate her abdomen pretty firmly which I would be afraid to do for fear of pressing too hard. Eggs are about the size of a grape, so chances are if you don't feel something about that large, then is likely isn't an egg.......

Skye isn't making anymore big poops...Just regular small ones and she's not going into the nest box as much...What's going on with her? Think she was faking it?:S  lol

It could be that she is finished her frisky stint.....and hence is no longer interested in breeding....if she continues to ignore the nest box, I would remove it and try again later.

lol what I did was I moved the nest box over 3 bars in the cage and was right back in there again...lol...I can't keep her out of it! rofl. But still no big poops...I'm not that worried anymore as long as she's not scared of the nestbox!
