Hiya all.
There are bamboo plants growing all around where I live. Any tips on how I could use it?

Perches- old or new bamboo? Old would make more stable perches but newer branches would be great for destroying :D
Leaves- safe right? Any one have a fan of bamboo leaves?

Tips on cleaning thoroughly?

I'm just a bit of a worrier and like to check everything with you guys first...(aren't you glad I joined?! :D)

i am not sure if bamboo is safe or not, but would also love to hear...
some bamboo plants are easy to 'train' into good perch shapes and look hardy enough to survive a 'budgie destruction team' :p if it is safe i would love to have a living bamboo plant inside an aviary or in my birdroom...

I have used bamboo for perch's since I started having budgies. We purchased them at a hobby shop cleaned them with vinegar and water and let dry in the sun. I don't know about bamboo leaves?

I put strings through the hollow part of the bamboo and made swings:) Make sure to put beads on the string part so they don't get caught in it.
All parts of the plants are safe:)

Have fun!

Apart from being attacked by random bugs while collecting the bamboo I'd say it was a success

Pitchii was sooo happy and not scared at all! So easy to make into perches. Yay!

Here she is eating / attacking the leaves :D

Thanks for the advice / reassurance everyone!

are the bamboo leaves safe? I have only read that the bamboo bark is.

she looks happy with her new perch, and isn't bamboo just beautiful? you're lucky where I live I'm probably going to have to search a lot of places to find some bamboo. :(

Have you tried garden centres for bamboo? In the UK bamboo canes are used as support for growing plants and are sold in various lengths, cheaply, in garden centres...
